We are thrilled to announce that Carla Canales is the recipient of our first-ever Employee Excellence Award! For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of meeting Carla, she is a shining star in our workplace. Her infectious smile and unwavering positivity never cease to brighten our days. Carla is not only an outstanding colleague but also a devoted caregiver, loyal friend, and soon-to-be mother of a baby boy due in July. World Prematurity Day is observed on November 17th each year to raise awareness about premature birth, the challenges faced by premature babies, and the impact it has on families. Prematurity is the leading cause of infant mortality and can cause short-term and long-term health problems for babies, including developmental delays, breathing difficulties, and vision and hearing problems. The day also honors the healthcare professionals who work tirelessly to care for premature babies and support their families during this difficult time.

Observing World Prematurity Day helps to increase understanding of the issue, promotes better care for premature babies, and raises funds for research to improve outcomes for premature babies and their families!

This week's employee spotlight,

Introducing Carla, a diligent and accomplished professional hailing from Merkel, TX. She completed her high school education a year earlier than her peers in 2017, after which she moved to Fort Worth with her high school sweetheart. Together, they enrolled in Re*****on College to pursue their careers in the medical field and graduated in July 2018 as Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMA's).

Carla started her professional journey at A.C. Chiropractic, where she worked for three years before being hired as an external site Medical Assistant. Later, in November 2020, she joined Hendrick Health as an M.A. for Internal Medicine, Neurology, and Infectious Disease. Her passion for women's health and prenatal care led her to transfer to OB/GYN in 2022, where she found her true calling.

Carla enjoys spending time with her loved ones and furbabies Cooper and Maggie in her free time. She believes in surrounding herself with good energy and positive people, which she has found in her close circle.

Carla is excited to join Dr. Martin's team full-time at the end of November.

We are pleased to introduce our newest team member - Abbye Wilson, LVN. Abbye graduated from Cisco Junior College and started her nursing career in Obstetrics with Dr. Martin. Having spent three years as a clerk for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Hendrick, Abbye discovered her passion for Women's and Children's Nursing. When she's not busy caring for her patients, Abbye spends her free time playing with her dogs and hanging out with her friends and family. Please join us in welcoming Abbye to the team!

Our amazing clinical team at Dr. Martin's office located at Hendrick Main Campus is actively looking for a new member. We are eager to find a second MA who would join our only permanent back office clinical support team member (who has been with us for ~2 yrs and is exceptional at all job aspects and the embodiment of our "patient first" team centered mentality).

This position would most directly support our wonderful FNP Capri Dishman, but will also directly work with Dr. Martin as well.

Our office prides itself on the cutting edge, evidence based, quality care we provide to patients in the world of Women's Health, but balances that with a philosophy towards tailoring treatment and medical care to the individual patient.

A North Carolina native, Santanna joined Dr. Martin's team in 2021 to lead the front desk office. Santanna takes a service-focused approach when connecting with patients, has strong organizational skills, and focuses on accuracy in everything she does. Her bubbly, energetic, and dedicated personality creates a warm, safe environment for our patients.

When Santanna isn't at work, she is in her kitchen trying new recipes, playing with her fur babies, and playing card games with friends. Thank you, Santanna, for all that you do.

Meet Capri Dishman, FNP-C. Capri is a West Texas native from Slaton, Texas. She is a Lubbock Christian University and Texas Tech University Alumni. Capri has spent most of her nursing career in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It is here where she discovered her passion for taking care of expectant mothers and providing optimal services to promote women's health and wellness. She is eager to provide compassionate, comprehensive care to women throughout the Abilene region. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Texas Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society.

Staff spotlight this week is Erika!✨

Erika is a Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant with over 10 years of experience in the medical field. She has previously worked in Cardiology and Dermatology where she assisted in MOHS surgeries and wound care. The last 2 years of her experience has been working in OB/GYN with Dr. Martin. Erika is multitalented and because of her experience you may find her working in many different areas within the practice. She loves to help people and be of service to others. Whether it be providing assistance medically or just providing an encouraging word. Erika is always here and happy to help.

When Erika isn’t at work, she enjoys being at the lake, fishing and shopping for new plants. Erika is also a mother to three beautiful children.

For those of you that are new here, meet Dr. Martin.

A native Texan, Dr. Stuart Martin earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee and his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. After making one final move and completing his residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, he sought to return home to establish his practice at Hendrick Medical Center.

During his education and training, Dr. Martin became professionally curious and particularly well versed in minimally invasive surgical techniques, including robotic surgery modalities. Having spent his training at one of the busiest high-risk labor and delivery units in the country, Dr. Martin also has extensive experience in complex OB care.

Dr. Martin is joyful to be in Abilene with his wife, Katie, and their three dogs. He is passionate about women's health and serving the women in the Big Country area through the various phases of life, from adolescence to pregnancy to menopause.

He is board certified with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He is also a member of the Taylor/Jones/Haskell County Medical Society Association and the Texas Medical Association.
