While COVID-19 death cases have declined over the last year, we wanted to take a minute to remind everyone that FEMA will assist families in covering the funerary costs of loved ones who've passed due to COVID-19. If someone in your family passed due to COVID-19, your funeral services, cremation, interment, and markers/headstones may be covered. FEMA has extended its assistance program until September 30th, 2025.

National Navajo Code Talkers Day was officially established in 1982 by former president Ronald Reagan. This holiday recognizes the brave individuals who used the Navajo code to fool Axis powers during WW2. The Navajo Code Talkers took military communications, translated them into Navajo code, and re-sent them to U.S. military troops. Without the importance of the Navajo code, the battle, and more importantly, the U.S. victory of Iwo Jima wouldn't be possible.

Today is the 234th anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard! First established in1790 by Congress and Alexander Hamilon, the fleet began with a mere 10 cutters. And now, there are more than 1,400 Coast Guard boats in operation. Happy anniversary, Coast Guard! Keep up the exceptional work!

Did you know that the United States Coast Guard is the oldest continuous seagoing service in the United States? On August 4th, 1790, Congress authorized the creation of 10 vessels to prevent smuggling and protect federal revenue. Over 125 years later in 1915, the Revenue Cutter Service and the U.S. Life-Saving Service combined to create what we now know as the United States Coast Guard. Since then, the U.S. Coast Guard has made countless civilian rescues, protected our coastal borders from outside threats, and secured our coastlines from illegal activity.
