The Closing Disclosure or Settlement Statement identifies all of the money changing hands in a transaction and explains who is paying what closing costs. It establishes the dollar amount that each party will receive or pay at the closing. On residential transactions involving a loan, the lender will provide a copy of the closing disclosure to the buyer for review before closing.

Laura is an attorney at First Texas Title Company, LLC and Bradshaw, McCall & Westbrook, PLLC.
She was born in the DFW area and moved around the state with her family until settling in Abilene as a teenager. She graduated from Cooper High School, then went on to Texas A&M University in College Station to complete her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2004. Laura obtained her law degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston in 2011.
After law school, Laura worked as a family law attorney for several years before discovering that the title industry was made for her. Laura strives to put people at ease in their closings and make it an enjoyable experience for all parties involved.
Laura is a licensed escrow officer and has experience examining titles, resolving title issues, and conducting closings. She is very involved in the local Abilene A&M Club, Abilene Young Professionals, and Abilene Young Lawyers Association.
When not busy with work or professional organizations, she enjoys spending time with her family and her two dogs. 🐕

Why do I need title insurance?
Title insurance in Abilene, Texas, offers two distinct types of protection for your residential or business property.
First, the basis of title insurance is an examination of the public records. In our title examination we will identify all kinds of information about the property to be purchased, including the existence of any potential defect in the title. Defects can range from a lien against the property held by a lender or a governmental agency to a competing claim of ownership of the property.

In providing title evidence to other title companies, we generally try to adhere to procedural rule P-24, and we are always glad to enter into P-24 agreements with other title companies.
In addition to providing title evidence, we also will assist you in obtaining copies of documents from County records. In larger commercial transactions, we also will assist you with recording documents at your direction and returning to you evidence of recording the same day.
Chris was born and raised in Kerrville, Texas and attended Abilene Christian University where he earned a BBA in Marketing and Management. Chris obtained his law degree from Baylor Law School in 2006 and, along with Andy McCall, is a co-owner of First Texas Title Company, LLC and Bradshaw, McCall & Westbrook, PLLC. Prior to joining First Texas Title, Chris worked as an attorney with McMahon Surovik Suttle, P.C., primarily in the areas of real estate, business transactions, probate, and estate planning. Chris is a licensed escrow officer and has extensive experience examining titles, resolving title issues, and conducting closings. Chris enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children.
