The Hendrick Cancer Center staff rolled out another special treat today for their past and current patients in honor of them during National Cancer Survivors Month.
Hendrick Health employees including Mykal Green, pharmacy technician coordinator, enjoyed participating in the Pre-Juneteenth Health, Fitness and Business EXPO hosted by the Abilene Black Chamber of Commerce on Saturday. Visitors to our booth included retired registered nurse Earthel Bowles, in red hat, who worked as a nurse's aid at Hendrick in 1958.

In honor of National Cancer Survivors Month, Hendrick Cancer Center is celebrating survivors, supporting those still on their journey and remembering loved ones who have passed. Survivors and their families are invited to come-and-go events every Wednesday at Hendrick Cancer Center. Today, survivors were treated to a coffee bar.

Yesterday, we celebrated Norm Archibald on his retirement from Hendrick Health. During his 30 years at Hendrick, he also served Abilene as mayor from 2004 to 2017. Congratulations, Norm!
In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Hendrick Health highlights a special group known as The 39ers. On May 4, 1994, these 39 nurses began their careers at Hendrick as the third cohort recruited from the Philippines. Of the original 39 who participated in this cohort, eight currently still work at Hendrick. To celebrate their 30th reunion, many of The 39ers returned to Hendrick Medical Center for a tour of their old stomping grounds.
Hendrick Health is currently enrolling participants for a clinical trial (TRANSFORM) that compares a stage-based treatment of patients with coronary artery disease or who are at risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease based on a coronary computed tomography angiography, with a risk-factored based treatment. The Asthma Summer Day Camp by Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Hendrick Health is designed to help children ages 7 to 12 diagnosed with moderate to severe asthma learn effective management skills. Today, Hendrick Health became the first site in Texas to implant a new first-of-its-kind dissolvable stent for patients suffering with chronic limb-threatening ischemia below the knee (BTK), a severe form of peripheral artery disease. The Esprit™ BTK Everolimus Eluting Resorbable Scaffold System by Abbott was approved in April 2024 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is designed to keep arteries open and to deliver a drug to support vessel healing prior to dissolving over time.

Several Hendrick Health volunteers and employees tapped a wealth of educational programs at the recent Texas Association of Healthcare Volunteers 2024 Conference. One of the educational presentations highlighted The Hope Fund at Hendrick Health, which has been a light in the Abilene region for more than two decades in the fight against breast cancer.
The May 27 registration deadline is fast approaching for Camp Courage, a day camp for kids entering 3rd - 12th grade who have experienced the death of a loved one. Combining the benefits of recreational and therapeutic activities, this program provides children the opportunity to explore and express their grief while learning coping skills for the future.
