Unfortunately, many people in our local community have had a bad solar experience and are often left high and dry with no one to help them out. Solar can be a great investment when it is done correctly. Here are a few tips to ponder when considering a solar provider:
1. CERTIFICATIONS: Make sure that someone on their staff that will be involved in the progress of the project is NABCEP certified. This is the industry standard and is required in most jurisdictions. The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners is a non profit who's purpose is to hold the solar industry as a whole to high standards in the design, sale, and installation of a solar project.
2. REVIEWS: The scary truth is that anyone can leave a review about your business on Facebook, google, yelp, etc.. even those who are being paid $20 bucks to do and have actually not had an experience with the business. While seeing a 5 star review is re-assuring to most, taking the time to read the review and insuring it is genuine can help decipher actual customer experiences vs. purchased reviews. The Better Business Bureau, in my opinion, is a more thorough review of a company, but can also be easily manipulated.
3. LICENSING, INSURANCE, and BONDED: Dont be afraid to ask for proof of this information. Especially for the subcontractors that will be working on your system as well. While the sales organization may fall under an umbrella of this, often times there is a bid for the lowest cost of installation, which is the most important part, and people performing the work need these certs. West Texas Solar eliminates any question regarding this with our in house electricians and installation crews.
4. COMMUNITY Involvement: Is the company giving back to the local community, are they invested in their home. Or are they in town for a few weeks, or even a few years? Have you heard of them before, do their kids go to school with yours? Being local is also important to the design of the system and knowing what works best for the customer. There are several different utilities in the area, all of which have changed their buybacks in the recent years and designs that used to be beneficial are less beneficial to the customer. Being involved and working with the local utilities is very important to making sure customers expectations of the performance of the system are met.

Utility rates continue to increase, and the price of solar and storage continue to decrease. Combining that with a 30% tax credit and additional incentives from various avenues the demand and interest in residential solar will continue to increase for years to come. Solar is not a one size fits all, and is custom for every project depending on energy usage, customer needs, utility provider, and jurisdiction. We are committed to our community and our customers.
