What is tremor?

There are several forms of tremor, including:

👋🏼 Essential tremor (sometimes called benign essential tremor) is the most common form of abnormal tremor. The hands are most often affected but the head, voice, tongue, legs, and trunk may also be involved.

👨‍🦳 Head tremor may be seen as a “yes-yes” or “no-no” motion. Onset is most common after age 40, although symptoms can appear at any age.

🧠 Parkinsonian tremor is caused by damage to structures within the brain that control movement. The tremor is classically seen as a “pill-rolling” action of the hands but may also affect the chin, lips, legs, and trunk.

🔀 Dystonic tremor occurs in individuals of all ages who are affected by dystonia, a movement disorder in which sustained involuntary muscle contractions cause twisting motions or painful postures or positions.

Treatments for tremor can include:
💊 Medicines. There are different medicines for the specific types of tremor. Another option is Botox injections, which can treat several different types of tremor.

🏥 Surgery may be used for severe cases that do not get better with medicines. The most common type is deep brain stimulation (DBS). DBS uses electrodes that are implanted in the brain. The electrodes send electrical pulses to the parts of the brain that are causing the tremor.

👩‍⚕️ Physical, speech-language, and occupational therapy, which may help to control tremor and deal with the daily challenges caused by the tremor.

Under the direction of Dr. David C. Weisman, ANA was the FIRST infusion center to infuse the groundbreaking drug LEQEMBI for those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia.

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is characterized by a decline in an individual's memory and cognitive ability, which exceeds the normal decline expected for their age or educational level. Common symptoms of MCI include forgetfulness, difficulty remembering words, and problems with decision-making.

If you have a loved one who may benefit from LEQEMBI call ANA schedule an initial consultation.

ANA offers In-home sleep testing!

Diagnosing Sleep Apnea 😴
The most definitive way to diagnose sleep apnea is through an overnight sleep study, also called polysomnography (PSG). During this non-invasive test, the equipment will monitor your breathing while you sleep to diagnose sleep apnea. The test involves wearing specialized equipment that includes sensors to measure your breathing, oxygen levels, and heart rate.

Common symptoms include:
📌 Loud persistent snoring
📌 Choking or gasping for air
📌 Pauses for breathing
📌 Early morning headaches
📌 Daytime fatigue
📌 Irritability
📌 Depression
📌 Restless sleep

The results of the study can help your healthcare provider confirm your diagnosis and identify the causes of airway obstruction.

Don't delay diagnosis! If left untreated, sleep apnea can cause both long-term and short-term health risks such as:
📌 High blood pressure
📌 Heart Disease
📌 Heart Attack
📌 Stroke
📌 Diabetes
📌 Higher risk for car accidents

XYLO Study | Blood Pressure and Narcolepsy Clinical Research Study Information 06/07/2024

ANA's Clinical Research Department is looking for participants for a new narcolepsy study, XYLO.

What is the XYLO Study?
This is a clinical research study looking at blood pressure in people with narcolepsy. We want to understand more about blood pressure when people with narcolepsy change from a high-sodium oxybate medication, like XYREM, to the study medication, XYWAV. XYWAV has the same active ingredients as XYREM, but with a much lower sodium content.

People participating in the XYLO Study would have been taking or will be taking a high-sodium oxybate, like XYREM, when the study begins. We want to see if changing to a lower-sodium oxybate, called XYWAV, can affect blood pressure.

Please call our office to learn more! 215-957-9250

XYLO Study | Blood Pressure and Narcolepsy Clinical Research Study Information This is an 11-week clinical research study for a lower-sodium medication for people with narcolepsy.

They provide patients access to investigational compounds under study while also offering an opportunity to help researchers find more advanced treatments for many others in the future.
