Impromptu family day!!! My daughter and fiancé came in from Chicago and we had fun at the White Caps baseball game (we won!) in a suite to keep me safe from the public. It felt wonderful to get out and do something!!

Finished this commission painting. The photos show various stages of the layers plus a Notan (B&W value) study to make sure I had good movement. This one is 24x36x1.5”, acrylic on canvas.

Second layer on this new commission painting. This one is 24x36x1.5”, acrylic on canvas. Follow and check back as I paint this landscape.

Starting a new commission painting. This one is 24x36x1.5”, acrylic on canvas. I start by building my stretcher bar frame, stretch the canvas over it and staple. Then I coat with an undercoat of color, choosing Yellow Ochre for this layer. Next loosely draw in the basic shapes of the landscape with a dark color. Start adding in the distant trees and foreground field. I love how this is starting off!! Follow and check back as I paint this landscape.

I finished this four painting landscape series for a client. Layers of paint, then oil pastel and paint pens to finish with some mark making. I love how these turned out, I know my client will be thrilled! Image is 12x12” on a 16x16” paper. I used acrylic paint, three primary colors along with black and white to keep all four paintings cohesive.

Yesterday I played with my grandson most of the day! We painted in grandma’s studio, took Dakota for a walk, played with toys, and made and ate m&m cookies. Grandma was sure tired after he went home!! Love that I can be with him, he makes my heart smile!😊

Does my husband know me or what?!! Since I can’t have flowers in the house…. He went for what I love ❤️ When did they start selling Garrett’s at Costco!!! Tuxedo cake from Costco… if you know, you know!
Banana for scale.

For those who asked how to write to me while in the hospital.

Working in my sketchbook again today. Adding some simple collage shapes to a busy painting to add calm. I really like the patterns peeking through.

I’ve been food hugged!!! Thank you to for making this amazing meal! What a fun surprise! I am currently a cancer rebel, and will have a stem cell transplant in two weeks, somebody nominated me for a “pick-me-up”. This is such an amazing organization. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Day 14/14 “I get to __________”. I felt like a self portrait went with today’s prompt. I get to…..breath, rest, live, choose, try, heal, have fun, smile, hope, pray, and believe. Just a few words that came to mind when finishing this sentence. I’m doing a daily art-making practice for self care, 14 days of messages to myself. Thank you and for the inspiration. #

Day 13/14, “use my wounds”. I wasn’t sure what exactly “my wounds” were, but the more I thought about it….my everyday struggles are my wounds. I can use these struggles to build my resilience. I’m doing a daily art-making practice for self care, 14 days of messages to myself. Thank you and for the inspiration. #

Day 12/14 “Cheer myself on”. Each day is a step closer to recovery, trust the process. I’m doing a daily art-making practice for self care, 14 days of messages to myself. Thank you and for the inspiration. #

Used Vangogh’s “Sunflowers” for inspiration for this little painting. I was going to fill in the background with blue, but decided I loved the background it has. I love the free, quick, sketchy, painterly quality of this piece.

Day 11/14 “Change my tone of voice”. Resilience, a word I have recently discovered. I feel I need to work to have resilience, it just doesn’t happen, I have to make it happen. I am working on keeping my energy levels and strength by walking and doing simple exercises, to keep my body in shape, to handle the challenge of my BMT. I am learning how to do lettering! So fun!! I’m doing a daily art-making practice for self care, 14 days of messages to myself. Thank you and for the inspiration. #

Day 10/14 “Reframe with an affirmation”. I found so many affirmations… I narrowed it down to these two, they both spoke to me. I am learning how to do lettering! So fun!! I’m doing a daily art-making practice for self care, 14 days of messages to myself. Thank you and for the inspiration.

Day 9/14 “What would a best friend tell you”? I asked my husband, and this is what he said, “you look beautiful today”, so that’s what I went with!! I’m doing a daily art-making practice for self care, 14 days of messages to myself. Thank you and for the inspiration.

Day 8/14 “it’s OK _____________ ”. It’s ok to take a couple days off. For this prompt I just kept coming up with statements to follow “it’s ok”. I made a page with pockets and little papers inside to write my thoughts on, I can continue to add to this. I’m doing a daily art-making practice for self care, 14 days of messages to myself. Thank you and for the inspiration.
