Microblading touchup after healed color correction. 👌🏼

Why do you need touchups and/or color corrections?

Permanent makeup is actually semipermanent. The pigments do not go as deep into the skin as a traditional tattoo. This means the pigments fade and when we are talking about your face, I think that’s a good thing! It gives you wiggle room to adjust color and shape with age.

Just like permanent hair color, it’s not a one and done treatment. There is upkeep needed to keep your permanent cosmetics looking their best.

Everyone’s skin is different and will therefore hold the pigment and heal differently. Some people need a touchup every year, some at 18 months and some lucky ducks can go even longer!

So what can affect the color and fading of your permanent cosmetics? SO many things such as your skin type, sun exposure, products used such as retinols, acids and vitamin C, hormones, prescription drugs and even lifestyle choices such as alcohol consumption and smoking.

Your skin is your largest organ. The healthier your skin, the better your results will be with permanent cosmetics.

Different techniques are better suited for different clients when it comes to microblading versus shading with a machine. You can also do a combination.

The bottom line is that you will need touchup appointments and possibly color corrections at some point. All pigments fade. Some pigment brands and certain skins have a tendency to turn pinky/orange and that can be corrected and pigment brands can be changed. Unfortunately everyone’s skin is different therefore making permanent cosmetics anything but an exact science.

Do your research on the artist you choose and they will help you determine the best protocol for you and your skin specifically. 🩷
