Was thinking of ballroom and wanted to look back at a couple that I remember really enjoying. What is beautiful about artists and our creations is that when you look on a performance...it doesn't really matter if you have seen it before or for the first time. When you listen to the music, this combines with your life experience up to this point and allows you to see the movement in a way that brings a connection between sight, sound, & feeling. The idea that two other people can relate to you through dance is truly amazing!!!!

Thought of the Week-Studio Quotes(Part 2)

So, last week, i posted a quote that I really have become quite partial to. Just like them all, the time between hearing it, understanding it, getting it, seeing it, comprehending it, embodying it, & believing it.....took quite a bit of time. In fact, sometimes, i find myself looking at this quote thinking i "get it" & other times, get this feeling that I'm just starting to scratch the surface.

"Every piece of information must eventually turn into a feel."

And in this lies the art, the area in between the physical doing and the true feeling and experiencing of the that physicality. It's in this "between", that we as the dancers start to really emote. And not because of the sound, or the melody, or anything other than truly being present and enjoying that which our body is doing.

Embassy Star Ball:Youth & U21
Our two youth couples had to hit it all day today. They had both styles throughout the afternoon. Then u21 for the evening session. In fact, we even had to make a quick change between the two styles. It crazy to see how much things can change in just a few weeks since empire and even more..how much it can change between just the youth and then the u21 in the evening.

Great atmosphere tonight and it’s been awesome watching the World Pro Latin!!!

Now time to come home tomorrow!!!!

Love these two boys. They did so so well tonight. So bright and positive!!! And it was awesome to have Henry, his sister and mom there to help cheer them on!!!! Yay!!🙌

Thought of the Week: Calm Mind

So...while many of us probably have heard this, believe in this, and subscribe to this. Have we ever thought about what practices it take to cultivate and train a calm mind. And when we say calm, what do we mean?

Do we mean calm?

Do we mean quiet?

Do we mean focused?

Just some things to ponder. As most mindset and mind work...the real study and development of it happens off the floor. It's when we are in the studio training and we really see how well our mindwork prep will work for us.

What are your thoughts on the above questions?

Thought of the Week-Quote(Part 3)

Don’t ask a question. Give an answer!!

This is something that came up this past weekend in guest lessons with Martin Lamb. It’s something that he says quite a bit and it’s something I want to share our team.

What does this quote mean?

Is there anything you are afraid of?

What is the big picture inside this quote?

These are questions I would love to see if you guys would comment and reflect on. I’m not saying that the point of that quote is easy. But I am saying that if you can switch your mind around to think and see things just a bit differently……transformation can begin!!!!

Thought of the Week-Quote(Part 2)

Here is another quote that has been on my mind.

"What is it that you want to say?"

Back again on this topic.......We are saying something when we dance to music. The figures are our vehicle, our bodies the media, the music our muse.....for what purpose......

To say something!! I really want to encourage everyone on our team to start taking the time, taking the chance to start talking.

Who cares if you find out that what you want to say doesn't translate visually?
Who cares if you don't really know what you want to say in a particular part?

These are all good dialogues to have in your lessons. Ensure that YOUR dancing is going in a direction that with each lesson...YOU are gathering the tools to TALK!!!!
