Do you have pets?

If so, you might want to consider a few things before choosing flowers for Valentine's Day...

Certain flowers can be Toxic to pets:
✅ Hyacinths *highly toxic to ALL (including birds)
✅ Lilies *highly toxic (especially to cats)
✅ Tulips
✅ Carnations (okay for birds, if you trust the source)

Did you know that florists use their own special combo to help preserve the flowers?

That combo often includes 3 things:
✅ Sugar
✅ Acid (to keep the pH low)
✅ Antibacterial/Antimicrobial products (often a combo of bleach and spirits - vodka or gin)

Sometimes they will even use hairspray over the petals!

If you have 😼cats that like to jump up and go after the flowers, or 🦜birds that you want to give the edible flowers (like roses🌹) to afterwards, consider cutting fresh flowers from your garden instead of buying from a florist.

If you don't have any yet, perhaps get a new plant that you can put in your yard...give the potted plant as your gift to your love 💓 then next year you've got a bush to cut from. You can enjoy it for years to come (with your pets), and save a bit of money in the process!😉

My little goofball…I had Ziva out on creance in tge yard to take some eye pictures for an iridology group I will be a guest speaker in after Christmas, she was checking out the drain in the grass, so I put an old kestrel perch over it to avoid her being able to get to it and while I was double-checking the pictures she decided to perch on it 🙃🤣

Just finished putting the equipment on and getting our new addition settled into her new home with Felix and Frankenberry. I’d like to introduce you to Dawn Hoosier, our new female eastern screech owl from Indiana! Special thanks to Dawn Meadows for helping to get this sweetheart transported safely to us💖🥰! I can’t wait to see how this little one turns out when she has her adult feathers. She still has baby fluff, but her markings are already gorgeous. She is clearly a mix of red and grey phase (as you can tell from the wing -spred picture the rehabber took last week…I will take lots more pictures as she settles in more😉).
