Our Story
Sumac is a public elementary school in Agoura Hills, CA that is part of the award-winning Las Virgenes Unified School District and offers a unique L-STEM program to its students.
L-STEM combines a standard STEM focus (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) with a 50:50 English/Spanish dual Language immersion program. Students spend half their day learning math and science in English, and the other half of their day is spent learning language arts and social studies in Spanish. This model allows teachers to team up and plan instruction to meet all common core standards in two languages.
Programs such as Sumac’s have been shown to provide cognitive, educational, sociocultural and economic benefits. Our program is in its eighth year of existence and is offered for all grades, from transitional kindergarten through fifth grade. Additionally, the local middle and high schools are also adding classes to accommodate our students as they graduate into those schools.
More info about Sumac can be found on the school’s website as well as on the school’s Parent-Faculty Association’s website.
Enroll by April to guarantee your spot (January 31 for those coming from out-of-district). Monthly school tours are scheduled November - April. Applications for inter-district permits are accepted from mid-November thru the end of January for the following school year. Please call today to book your tour (818-991-4940 ext 25221) and begin/continue your child’s journey toward bilingualism and biliteracy. Visit www.lvusd.org/domain/66 for enrollment.
