Diastasis Recti: How to Treat & Measure Diastasis recti (DRA) is a weakness in the abdomen that causes the re**us abdominis muscles to pull apart at the midline. DRA can happen to both men and women of any age. This handout briefly describes how to measure your DRA at home.
I just finished the Rehabilitative Ultrasound Imaging class taught by Herman & Wallace (HermanWallace.com). My clinic is now offering this service to our patients and clients. It is an excellent way of viewing muscles in action to work on motor control and proper muscle strengthening. Plus, you can view the pelvic floor and bladder transabdominally (for those people that prefer a less invasive assessment). I created this checklist for download for other practitioners and clinicians to use to help keep your treatment focused and organized. I'm working on abdominal, multifidus, and transperineal and should have those posted shortly.

This week is Spirit Week at my daughterโs high school and today is Senior Day, as in senior citizen. Rather than use a cane or walker, don a grey wig or robe, she chose to wear a sweat band, athletic clothes and shoes, and carry hand weights. This is a perfect representation of the seniors that I see in my clinic. They are athletic, active, and motivated! Ageism has given many this idea that seniors arenโt and canโt be active. This is absolutely not the case! Iโm so proud of my daughter for choosing to represent the reality of the people I work with and for portraying true senior energy!

Where do I get my research resources from? Iโm a current member of the APTA Womenโs health section and of the orthopedic section and of the South Carolina state section. That means I get the most recent periodicals mailed right to my doorstep. Once I finish reading them, I put them in the lobby to share.
Same with the PubMed articles I find. Once finished reading and gleaning the info, I place them in the research corner.
That means my research sources are the most up to date - and available for clients to look through!
We now have a kid-friendly treatment room available! If a lack of childcare is preventing you from making an appointment, please don't let that stop you. We love kids here at Pelvic Prime and are happy to accommodate well behaved children of all ages. They are welcome to enjoy the toys we provide, or they can bring quiet activities of their own, like coloring books. Urinary incontinence (UI) is something that many of us will experience at some point in our lives. A lot of us will think it's a normal part of life, whether it is related to aging or our activity level. Many will wonder if it is because of the amount of liquids like water that they are drinking. And I'm here to tell you, that no, generally UI is not affected by how much water or other liquid you are consuming on a daily basis. If you are drinking between about 4 cups and 12 cups of water or other liquids a day, you don't really need to adjust how much you are drinking! So raise a glass of water (or your favorite non-alcoholic beverage) and enjoy without worry about it affecting your urinary incontinence!
As with all things in life, it's beautiful what a little work and progress each day can achieve! We are loving the transformation of the new clinic - this series of photos shows what we've been able to accomplish since the three day weekend and in the evenings. We can't wait to share this new space with you on February 1st!
