Introducing a Classy n' Trashy Summer Menu!

Embracing the trashy roots at our core paired with our exterior classiness (ahem, kitsch, disco & fancy thrift finds on 50% off day 😉) we've decided to try something a little different with this next menu that is not only authentic to us, but makes us laugh & brings a smile to our faces.

It is entirely possible that after the last few years that we are potentially encountering some sort of breakdown or breakthrough - perhaps both? Who knows. Either way, two of the biggest lessons that we have been learning along the way, is that the little things will always matter the most, and that life is too short to take it so seriously or live it inauthentically.

Anyhow, we're ready to have some fun, and hope you are too! 😍

Wednesday - Friday: 11am-10pm & Saturday 4pm-10pm.

🌴 Saturday brunches will be rolling out in the near future, we'll announce more information after we acclimate to these new menus & extended hours!

Also. Today is Anthony Bourdain's birthday - AKA "Bourdain Day". It's a day to hold space in honor of him, his legacy, and all that he not only represented at the time, but what he still continues to authentically represent & teach to this day. For those of us in the industry, today hits home a bit differently - but I'm going to save the full version of this one for another day. For the time being though please enjoy "The Passenger" by Iggy Pop, and remember always get the cream sauce. 🥹

✨ Lunch Hours & Menu!! ✨

First, we want to express our gratitude for the outpour of love & support sent our way since our last post/s. Last Saturday was the best day we've had since right before the pipe burst / closure, and we just appreciate you all so much. 🥹 Typically, it can usually take a few weeks to bounce back momentum wise from a closure, let alone play catch up to where things organically would have increased to, otherwise. Thank you, thank you - please keep that high energy flowing towards us, and get yo "butt in seats" soon! 😂💗

Lunches are rolling out this week, yay!! Our new hours through Summer will be Wednesday - Friday: 11am-10pm & Saturday: 4pm-10pm.

A couple notes:

🌴 Dinner Menus will be posted sometime tomorrow (I'm running a little behind on design stuff with all the extra things going on here lately, so bear with me please! 💗)

🌴 Bar Happy Hour runs 4-6pm!

🌴We're on the final leg of getting our wine license (finally!) so until that time comes, we're going to keep the current Cocktail / Mocktail menus the same, and then roll out new menus when that officially comes through. Almost there!

🌴 In a few weeks, we will start adding Saturday Brunch dates in the mix! We'll post more on this when the time comes! 💗

Holding Space. Transparency. A Call to our Community. (cont.)

Part 2.

Thanks for your patience, friends - I didn't anticipate the need for a "Part 2" & accidentally got lost in 9 years worth of nostalgia looking for a pic. Ultimately, it felt like a good time for a "Rainbow Room" transition. This room was a beast. The look on Matt's face when I revealed my plan on how to make a workspace still fun for guests to walk through... 😂 This hand painted rainbow color gradient explosion of a space consisted of math that broke our brains, 45 some colors (I lost count) & took more than 200+ hours from start to finish. Despite the hell, it is my favorite room that still brings nothing but joy.

Anyhow. What we're up against with insurance is gross. We're talking about "missing" phone records, gray language, and a matter of "collapsed" vs. "clogged" being the determining factor (it shouldn't matter) They never came out, never talked to plumbers, never talked to our landlords or their insurance... etc. there's more here, but regardless it's a classic case of "bait & switch".

So, we're putting out a very transparent call to action to our community for support. There are no plans for a crowd funding dynamic, that isn't what this is or what we're hinting at, at all. What we are asking for though, is "more butts in seats" - We NEED MORE PEOPLE physically coming into the restaurant to help us bounce back & play catch up from this pretty devastating event, so that we can actually get our heads above water. To say this has been a defeating blow on both professional & personal ends would be an understatement, but we're doing our best to pick ourselves back up & dust the dirt off our knees, in the ways we know how.

With that all said, here is the FUN stuff we have coming up:

Part 1.

First, let me share why this is my absolute favorite photo out of our entire 9 year adventure as Square Scullery. (Thanks, Shane 🥹) We have lived in Akron (namely Highland Square) for nearly 20 years now, give or take our move to Tennessee - Akron is our home. As diehard Akron kids (almost to a fault) we have always taken so much pride in our community & all of the beautiful people, neighbors & small businesses that it makes up... It's in Scullery's DNA, because it has always been at our own personal root & hearts. This is Porchrokr 2016 - our first season rolling out Betty, the food truck -aka Scullery's true beginning.

This will forever be such a special moment of "Scullery magic" because while of course it was very exciting to get to be a part of our favorite day of the year, we also got to set up in our own neighborhood, in our very own driveway... where we called home. It meant so incredibly much to be surrounded by not only all of our neighbors, but also the community that we so love and cherish. Community is everything.

That leads us to the present, a transparent call to action for our community. We need to be supported, lifted, and loved right now - honestly, now more than ever. Following an incredibly challenging & difficult handful of years & circumstances, we got word that insurance has denied our claim in full regarding the sewage pipe collapse / forced week+ closure, that we just experienced few short weeks ago. A situation that cost / lost us a combo of nearly $40,000 that we absolutely did not have to cover between all continued bills, full payroll, lost sales, extra pertaining expenses, all food / product loss & all stored items lost in the basement... The effects are extensive and happened at the most debilitating of times, having just opened & just only starting to balance out from it.

For legal reasons I can't disclose too much, but it's dirty... It's really really dirty. This should not be happening, which is the entire point of having "rock solid insurance".

As to not run out of space or water down words - Part 2 will be continued in the following post, which will be up shortly. Xo

One of our favorite $8 Bar Happy Hour "snacky snacks" - Fried Moonshine Pickles! (21+) 🥒

House-made Ole Smoky Moonshine "White Lighting" pickles, served with Lawson's chip dip & fresh dill. They're gluten free, vegetarian, and come 8 to an order!

These particularly pull on our heartstrings because it's the perfect blend of "Ohio meets Tennessee" - even more specifically Cuyahoga Falls / Akron meets Gatlinburg / Pittman Center, a perfect homage to our own roots. Years ago, we left Ohio to move to the beautiful Smoky Mountains in the Gatlinburg area, which is where Dolly Parton is from too! This is also where Matt took his first executive Chef position (leaving the Old Harbour Inn in PLX as a Sous Chef), and ironically even catered a handful of Ole Smoky Mountain Moonshine events... of course serving moonshine pickles.

As much as we absolutely loved living in the Smokys, we missed our family, friends & homegrown sense of community more - eventually boomeranging back to Akron a few years later to start the food truck aka the start of Square Scullery... We never could have dreamed at that point that we would ever be standing where we are today, just 10 years later. While we have always been die-hard "Akron kids", the mountains will forever be a part of us, our hearts & our story. It's one of the many cute little "our love goes into all of our food / is behind everything we do" stories - even fried pickles. 🥹

Her unwavering dedication to education, healthcare, children, and general humanitarian resources has greatly impacted lives on a local to Sevierville level, but well extending beyond that on a National (plus some) level. 😍
