Did you know that Latinos will face the largest increase in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia cases of any racial/ethnic group in the United States?

By 2060, the number of Latinos 65+ years old with Alzheimer’s is expected to nearly quadruple – to more than 3.5 million individuals.

Join AFA for a virtual Spanish language educational summit (with English subtitles) to discuss brain health and the impact of Alzheimer’s disease on the Hispanic/LatinX community in Miami, Florida.

Participants will learn about stages of Alzheimer’s disease, common elder law issues for caregivers, modifying traditional Latino foods for healthy living outcomes, and the importance of memory screenings and how to get them. On this session of Coffee Break, we will be joined by Miller Piggott, Executive Director of Alzheimer's of Central Alabama (ACA). Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama is a non-profit organization and resource center that have been serving Alzheimer’s patients, caregivers, and professionals for over 30 years.

November is National Family Caregivers Month, as well as Alzheimer's disease Awareness Month. Miller joins Coffee Break to discuss who ACA is and how they might be able to help you and your loved one(s).

The PANDA Project will provide services to citizens in Shelby County, Alabama. We will provide one-on-one support to Person with Dementia (PWD) and their caregivers, as well as adults with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities(IDD), who have or are at high risk for developing dementia.

We provide in-home assessments, help create person/family-centered care plans for both the PWD and their caregivers. We utilize state-of-the-art technology and resources to assist and educate caregivers and their loved ones on their journey with dementia.
