When I decided to open my own skincare studio, I envisioned a sanctuary not just for my beloved clients, but also for me. My desire was to blend the calming, tropical vibes of Bali (one of my favorite places in the world!) with a modern, minimalist look in soft shades & tones to promote relaxation & rejuvenation.

Following IMAGE Studios’ design style guide, I was proudly able to bring my vision to life at IMAGE Studios - Alameda, CA. I humbly receive compliments all the time about my space, not just from my clients, but also from those passing through our location & others on social media - especially since IMAGE Studios featured my studio photo on the website for their 5th Annual Studio Design Awards, & Glamcor Professional used a photo of my studio in one of their posts & ads on various social media platforms (see 2nd & 3rd slides).

I’m extremely proud of the space I’ve created; it’s come a long way since the first stages of construction from a year ago! It’s the culmination of my style vision… & it’s my second home. It’s where my passion for skincare & skin health extends to help improve the lives of others, & where I fulfill my dreams for myself.

Let’s talk about dermaplaning!✨

Dermaplaning is a procedure during which a licensed esthetician/skincare provider uses a surgical-grade scalpel to gently & effectively remove not just vellus hair (a.k.a. “peach fuzz”), but also the dull skin that’s on the surface of your face. It’s suitable for most skin types except those with extremely sensitive skin, inflammatory skin conditions such as rosacea or eczema, or a widespread, active acne breakout.

How is it different from shaving? Shaving with a razor blade simply cuts hair at the skin level, while dermaplaning removes the superficial layer of dead skin cells as well. This results in deeper pe*******on of skincare ingredients; softer, glowy skin; & smoother application of makeup.

Community. As a WOC small business owner, it was important to me to find a community of like-minded women with similar backgrounds & with whom I can share past experiences, present challenges, & future wins.

So it was fortuitous that my friend Regina invited me to join her last weekend at ’s In Full Bloom event, where we not only had our photos taken by the talented team from , but also heard from fabulous guest speakers , .co, & about the different ways that being a WOC affects how we move around our world & present ourselves in our businesses. Of course, there was fun networking as well!

I’m thankful to the organizers, speakers, & other attendees who reminded me, especially now during AAPI Heritage Month, that I’m not alone in my entrepreneurial journey as a WOC. 🤍 I was raised and have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, one of the most diverse regions in the U.S. for most of my life. People usually don’t guess my ethnic background correctly 🇵🇭 I now live and work in Alameda, our beautiful little island in the Bay, and absolutely love it!

🤍 I’m now in my mid-40s and I first entered the beauty industry 25 years ago, in 1998. I’ve worked for ’s original namesake brand (more than once, in different roles), , , at ’s corporate headquarters, and in operations and product development for another established cosmetics brand. I also graduated from and worked at , the coolest beauty school on the planet 🍃

🤍 My main focus is skincare and skin health, so I offer a variety of customized facials and advanced skin treatments. I’m also one of a very small percentage of licensed estheticians in the U.S. who are certified in Oncology Esthetics® and trained to provide skincare services for the health-challenged (if this is you or a loved one, please reach out!). 🤍 Fun facts:
- I *love* organization and almost became a professional organizer. I still do this for fun!
- I’m a lefty, but I have really neat and distinct handwriting.
- I was a figure skater as a child, taught myself how to read sheet music and play the piano, and used to perform in musical theater.
- I have 3 children; two of them are in their early 20s and “adulting,” and my youngest is 8 years old.
- I can recite all the U.S. Presidents in order by last name in just over 10 seconds 😂
