How often should you cut your hair?

Clients ask this question a lot. The answer is not the same for everyone. It depends on the length, the fragility and health of your hair. ⠀

➰ Healthy hair - 3-4 months.
➰ Short cut - 4-6 weeks⠀
➰ Fragile hair - 6 weeks to 3 months.⠀
➰ Damaged - A little trim every 2 months will help get rid of damaged ends while maintaining length without doing a big chop

If you go past 6 months, you may need to cut more off than you want to keep it healthy.⠀

Once it’s healthy the best way to tell when is time for a cut for a lot of people is when you are detangling your hair with conditioner in the shower and the ends keep catching, it’s definitely time for a cut!⠀

Some fine or super curly hair is naturally tangly and can’t use that method. It’s best to stick to trims every 3-4 months

How should you show up to a curly haircut appointment?

☀️ Come in with your hair washed and styled as you normally style it curly. It’s ok to use some product in it.

☀️ Make sure it’s completely dry and it’s only been a day or two since wash day. Going longer may create tangles/matted hair that will make it more difficult to get through and add on extra charges.

☀️ Avoid putting your hair up in a bun, ponytail or clip before your appointment. - this can disrupt your curl pattern and make it hard to do a proper cut. Curly cuts rely on on seeing your natural curl pattern while dry!

☀️ Avoid coming in with matted/tangled pieces. Make sure to toughly detangle when washing and don’t come in with a 3+ day old “curl set”. If your hair is tangly/matted it will take more time, cost more and you will most likely end up with scraggly ends

Make sure you are washing out ALL of the styling products that are in your hair, before applying shampoo.

If you’re rinsing well first, your shampoo doesn’t have to battle through the product so you will end up using less. That means more money in your pocket 😂

‘I had no idea my hair was this curly!!’ 🥰 is common response I hear after I show people what their curls can really do!

Many people will be surprised by what their hair is truly capable of! Bring those curls back to life by making sure to keep that hair hydrated with plenty of water a quality conditioner and correctly applying the right styling products. It can really do wonders!! 👏🏽

We used Innersence I Create Hold and Quiet Calm Curl Control mixed together and evenly applied all over on soaking wet hair and “noodling” to create definition before scrunching and then diffusing.

Diffusing can really help waves to be more curly! It’s a game changer.

Transforming curls one style at a time!

I love going back and looking at the different styles clients have had.

Are you ready to embrace a change with a stunning new look?

Have you ever gotten a cut with someone who doesn’t specialize in curls and it turned out a lot shorter or choppy?

This beauty did but we made the best of it and embraced the shortness and created this beautiful asymmetrical look 😍

It’s so important to find someone that understands your hair and curl pattern!

The struggle is real! I’ll never understand rainfall shower heads!! I curse at every home improvement show that installs one 😡🤣

It's very important to apply product to really wet hair (do not towel dry first) distribute product by finger combing and then smooth the hair by finger combing/raking/noodling slightly squeezing your fingers so the curls come together into curl families or locks and you don't see a lot of stray hairs. The more stray hairs you see, the frizzier it will be.⠀⠀⠀

Then scrunch up to coax the curl or ➰squeeze side ways to elongate the curl. You can also twirl the locs. Then scrunch or blot a couple times with a microfiber towel or old t-shirt to remove excess water. Then air dry or diffuse. ⠀⠀⠀

My ultimate goal is to help people learn to love their curls!

A good cut is the foundation but learning tips and tricks on styling and care is the day to day maintenance that is required to continue to love it.

I don’t want you to only love it when I style your hair, I want you to learn to recreate the look so you can love it when you style it too! 🥰

It can be so hard to find a curl specialist that can actually work with your curl pattern!

Tighter curl patterns and thicker hair can be intimidating for some stylists.

I am proud to say I have worked with all curl patterns, textures and thicknesses.

Rest assured that you are in good hands when you sit in my chair ☺️

ʜᴀᴠᴇ ʏᴏᴜ ʙᴇᴇɴ sʜᴀᴍᴘᴏᴏɪɴɢ ᴡʀᴏɴɢ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴡʜᴏʟᴇ ʟɪғᴇ?

Here are some tips on how to properly shampoo:

• Rinse your hair thoroughly with warm water first. The warm water will help remove excess products dirt and oil from the hair before applying shampoo. Make sure your are getting all of your hair wet.

• Mix shampoo with water and lather it up in your hands before applying (if using a lathering shampoo). This will ensure that the shampoo spread evenly throughout your scalp and you end up using much lesser shampoo than you would had you applied it directly.

• Apply shampoo to your scalp to remove dirt, sebum, and build-up that collects there. Spend at least three minutes massaging the cleanser on your scalp add more water as needed. Then use excess shampoo to pull through to the mid shaft and ends. Focus should mostly be on the scalp. If needed rinse and shampoo again.

• Rinse with warm water while massaging your scalp. This is especially important for non lathering shampoo. If you are not massaging your scalp as you rinse you may be causing buildup on your scalp.

**If you use a non foaming cleanser it’s good to use a clarifying cleanser once a month.

Stay tuned on how to properly condition ☺️

If you or someone you know suffer from excess buildup on your scalp try these steps.

When you hear you’ve given someone the best haircut of their life, holy crap does that make your day!! .... never mind that it was told to you by a child who followed up by saying it was only the third cut she’s ever had 😜 it’s still such a compliment.

When I hear this from an adult who has had a few bad experiences, it really touches my heart. 💗

I love making someone’s day and showing them that not all haircuts are traumatizing.

Daria was traumatized from a past haircut where she donated her hair and all they did was chop off the ponytails and evened it out by giving her a blunt cut.

With fine hair, texture and layers are so important to create movement. The last thing you want is a haircut that makes you feel like your hair just hangs 😜

It’s so important to me to educate people on how to style and take care of their hair so they will have better success replicating it on their own.

Hannah had super long mermaid hair that was weighing her curls down. Once we got some of that weight off and put in a bunch of layers it was a game changer. She now has healthy bouncy curls!

One of the key things is I showed her how to recreate these beautiful bouncy curls at home!

It takes time and practice but once you get the hang of it, it’s smooth sailing!

Sooo I did a thing! I chopped my hair! I must have taken like 6 inches off! Now I’m feeling cute and I might just take over the world... or I might just chop off some more 😃

What do you think? I’m doing a poll...
Should I cut it to my collarbone? ......or
Should I leave it this length?

Ready for change? After the year we’ve had, most of us are ready for change!

A lot of people who had short hair before the pandemic, have grown it out and are embracing their long hair.

And some of us are so over the long hair or are way past due for a cut!

I’m loving all the big changes people are embracing like Abby, a new client of mine, who decided she wanted to make a big leap and chop over a foot off! She had been dreaming about this haircut for all of the pandemic and I am honored that she chose me to finally make her dream come true ☺️

Are you trying to hydrate your hair with oil and wonder why it’s not working?

It’s chemically impossible to hydrate your hair with oil. Think about it like this...

Water and oil don’t mix, oil repels water. So if you put it on your hair it will repel the water from getting into your hair.

To hydrate the hair you need water💦 Hydra means water. Most oils cannot be absorbed into your hair shaft they just coat your hair and create a barrier so water can’t get in

This is why adding oil to your hair can dehydrate your hair!

🗣 Keep get the word out send this to a friend!

Love is in the hair!!! Happy Valentine’s my loves!

I am so happy that more and more people are embracing their curls!

Just like a relationship it’s essential to listen to them and learn their love language, pay attention to their likes and dislikes and treat them with care.

It is so important to love them and appreciate them unconditionally, even when they are knotty 😉

The better you treat them, the better they will treat you too. 💕

Communication is key! Sometimes you need help understand each other and that’s when it’s good to find a professional.

I’m happy to be your hairapist and help you have a better relationship and learn to love each other again! 💗💗
