Fest Wine Co.
Small Batch. Single Vineyard. Responsibly Farmed. Fest Wine Co is a family-owned boutique wine brand.
The picking bins have been dropped off, the weather forecast is promising, and the fruit looks pretty impeccable, as it enters the home stretch of its ripening period.
In other words, the waiting game for our Pinot Noir picks at Van der Kamp Vineyard has begun and we look forward to harvest 2024!
Vintage 2024 in the making.
Flowering is in full progress at the vineyard, with some blocks already at the fruit set stage.
Flowering, also known as efflorescence, is the process in which the pollination and fertilization occurs that ultimately leads to the development of a small grape cluster.
The outcome of this critical stage in the vine’s annual cycle is greatly influenced by weather. Wind, rain, and cold temperatures during flowering can result in shatter or the failure of flowers to become fertilized.
While the first two pictures show flowering still in progress in some blocks of the vineyard, other blocks have already completed it and the resulting peppercorn-sized grapes have formed.
The fourth picture, taken in one of the 828 clone blocks, shows a promising fruit set and we hope that the warm weather this week will lead to similar outcomes in the remaining blocks of the vineyard.

Even though I have driven the road to the top of Sonoma Mountain countless times, witnessing a sunrise and watching the vineyard and its vines receive a morning glow is always a special experience.
Time to check in on our 2023 Pinot Noir from Van der Kamp Vineyard and to top off our barrels.
With MLF completed several weeks ago and most of the CO2 having dissipated out of the wine, this is one of my favorite times to taste the latest vintage to get a preview of it while still in barrel.
My goal as a winemaker has always been to craft elegant Pinot Noir without compromising complexity. I believe that, with a nearly perfect 2023 growing season, what we currently have in barrel might be my best attempt toward achieving that goal and I look forward to sharing the wine in the future.
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving from our family to yours!

Vintage 2023 in the making.
Bloom finally arrived on Sonoma Mountain a couple of days ago.
Bloom is just around the corner for these 70-year-old Pinot Noir vines. We now keep our fingers crossed for warm temperatures and lots of sunlight during the next few weeks, since both conditions are necessary to maximize pollination.
