During their time at Pine Hills Elementary School, our fifth-graders learned, led and started to change the world.
We are confident they will do the same - plus some - in middle school, high school and beyond. Just ask Albany High School’s Class of 2024 valedictorian (and PHES alum), Badia Syed – who was our inspiring guest speaker at Tuesday’s Promotion Ceremony.
Thank you to our graduates for your hard work, leadership and kindness throughout the years and best of luck in all you do!
Due to today's (Friday) unexpected building closure, we are rescheduling our prekindergarten and kindergarten promotion ceremonies.
They will now be held on Monday (June 24) at the following times:

• Gould - 10 a.m.
• Pitucci - 11:15 a.m.

Service Learning Project a success thanks to all of you! The following is a message from our Student Lighthouse Team: Thank you to our school community for supporting our Service Learning Project this year! We spent the year learning about homelessness in our community and using the 'See, Do, Get' model from Leader in Me to guide our planning of this year...
We're so proud of our students for the smarts they showcased at our Leadership Day on Friday!
The following is an important message from our Student Lighthouse Team:
We came together this year knowing that we wanted to do something good in our neighborhood. After lots of discussion and narrowing down ideas, we knew we wanted to help people in our community who don’t have a home.
Homelessness is an important issue facing people in our city. Care packages can be a great way to help people who are homeless.
We are asking our school community to donate items that we can add to our care packages.. Bring in any of the items listed below from your grade level. Our goal is to make 50 care packages.
Thanks in advance for your support and please note that items are due Friday, June 7.
Join us for what's expected to be another fabulous Leadership Day here at Pine Hills Elementary School!

Save the date! On Tuesday, April 9, Pine Hills Elementary School will host RULER Family Night – a fun evening of activities to showcase our work to help students effectively recognize, understand and manage their emotions.
Emotions are important. They affect attention, memory, learning, decision-making and the ability to form and maintain positive relationships. Our school has embraced RULER, a program that equips students with the skills to Recognize, Understand, Label, Express and Regulate their emotions.
On April 9, you can learn about how you can support these RULER skills at home. You and your child also will be able to create a family charter (mission statement) and flag. The event will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. We hope to see you! Please RSVP here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSccz5ovqr9jpcfyoLoXWqkCJDPkAKHzt9-j7PieVuT5e54V1w/viewform?pli=1&pli=1

Our school-wide Black History Month assembly was a wonderful collaboration of leadership, creativity and fun!
We kicked off the event with the Black national anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” courtesy of grades 1 and 5.
Our guest speaker was Jammella Anderson, who founded the Free Food Fridge project. We finished with grade-level presentations about notable and history-making Black Americans whose dedication, hard work and success has made Albany, New York State and the United States more equitable for all.
Please don’t forget that we are gathering again from 5:30-7 p.m. for the family portion of our Black History Month celebration– hope to see you here!
Leaders never stop!
Even on a day off from school, members of our student Lighthouse Team worked to grow our school’s leadership culture which, in turn, will improve outcomes for our students both in and out of the classroom.
A representative from Leader in Me helped the group to identify this year’s school-wide service learning project.
We can’t wait to collaborate and develop the plan in the months to come and are proud to prioritize student voice in all that we do here at Pine Hills!
Take a look at a typical day of learning in Mikayla Shade’s fifth grade here at Pine Hills!
During Friday morning’s ELA lesson, students were hard at work discussing the features of informational writing pieces and reviewing examples in preparation to create their own next week.
