Big thanks to everyone who came out for our first Tabletop Game Night of the semester! It looked like you all had a fabulous time, and we hope you made some new friends along the way!

Next up: Team Trivia on Monday, Sept 23 from 6-8pm in the Minerva Room! Whether you're rolling with friends or flying solo, we'll make sure you land on a team! Some small prizes are up for grabs for the top trivia teams! And yes, we’ll be cranking out all the video game, movie, and TV soundtrack jams to keep the good vibes going! See you there!

Heaven is a place on earth--and it's filled with libraries 📚✨ It's officially Library Card Signup Month with APL! Starting this week, UAlbany students can sign up for an Albany Public Library card every Wednesday in September, between 2pm - 4pm in the University Library Lobby, and unlock access to a whole network of libraries! Please make sure you bring a form of ID and proof of address to sign up 🙏

The University Libraries remember Dr. Alice Green, University at Albany alumnus, 2022 Citizen Laureate of the University, Civil Rights advocate, educator, former executive director of Trinity Institution, 1998 candidate for lieutenant governor of New York, and founder of the Albany-based Center for Law and Justice. The Department of Special Collections & Archives holds Dr. Green's papers along with the records of the Center for Law and Justice.

Last week members of the University Libraries faculty and staff attended the SUNY Librarians Association's (SUNYLA) Annual Conference, held this year at Buffalo State University in Buffalo, NY.

Kelsey O'Brien (Information Literacy Librarian) presented a poster titled, "Fostering Inquiry with AI Research Tools"

Gabe Ross (Resource Sharing & Reserves Evening Associate) presented a session titled, "Trans Rights to Read!: Assessing Transgender Subject Material Collections in SUNY Academic Libraries"

Aaron Cohen (Library Assistant 1) was awarded the Daniel F. Kissane Memorial Scholarship. The purpose of the Daniel F. Kissane Memorial Scholarship is to offer an introduction to academic librarianship, provide professional growth opportunities and encourage involvement with SUNYLA.

Greg Bobish (Information Literacy Librarian and Subject Librarian for Information & Library Science) received the Friend of SUNYLA Award. This award is given annually to individuals or organizations that actively contribute to furthering the goals of SUNYLA and of SUNY libraries.

The University at Albany Libraries are seeking a graduate student to assist with a student outreach initiative: Library Ambassadors. Library Ambassadors are undergraduate and graduate students who engage in conversations on the UAlbany Libraries and promote library resources, services, and events to the campus community.

The Outreach and Marketing Graduate Assistant will support the ex*****on of a strategic marketing plan for recruiting students for this volunteer program and aid in the training program for new recruits. Learning how to successfully manage and create engaging content for library social media accounts, with a primary focus on Instagram, will also be a responsibility. The successful candidate for this position may also be assigned additional small projects as they relate to student outreach.

The work of this position is intended to be performed in-person and on-site at the University Library on the uptown campus.

Summer hours are here!

May 13 - 19 the University Library will be open 9am - 8pm, Monday - Friday, and closed on the weekends.

May 13 - August 25 the Science Library will be open 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday, and closed on the weekends.

May 13 - August 25 the Dewey Graduate Library will be closed. During this time, library users can request materials from the Dewey Library collections for pickup at the University or Science Libraries, or Office Delivery. Please use the Libraries’ Search Tool (search.library.albany.edu) to search for and request materials from the Dewey Library, or email library staff ([email protected]) for assistance requesting items. Returned items will continue to be accepted through the book return bin outside of the Dewey Library, at the University Library, or via campus or USPS mail.
