I am very excited to announce a new position which has opened for a Forensic Scientist specifically assigned to help assist with the development and validation of new methods and instrumentation and to help provide training both to internal staff and law enforcement personnel. Our Biology/DNA Detail is currently 30-ish individuals strong and consistently receives strong funding and support from our Department in way of growth, ease of purchasing resources, and forward thinking in the exploration of new methods and/or procedural modifications to help move the Detail forward in efficiency and quality. Though we are employed by Las Vegas, our jurisdiction extends to all of Southern Nevada, which accounts for approximately 70% of the state’s population.
A few things of special note:
The state of Nevada has no state income tax
When enrolled in the Nevada PERS system (pension), you do not pay social security taxes
A scheduled 3% step increase in pay occurs on the 6 months of start date
A second scheduled 3% step increase in pay occurs on the one year anniversary of start date
Scheduled 3% step increases in pay continue on each subsequent anniversary date until reaching the top of the pay scale for the class specification
An additional Cost of Living adjustment occurs each year on July 1st and is typically between 2.25-2.5%
Education incentive in which employees possessing Bachelors or Masters degrees receive an additional salary each year (e.g., Masters degree earns an additional $1476.18 each year)
Overtime pay is available at 1.5 pay
A couple of fun facts about Las Vegas, which even I didn’t realize until I moved here nearly 8 years ago:
The outdoors is top notch – whether you like to hike, cycle, run, wakeboard, or dog walk, we have it all
Red Rock Canyon National Park wraps the city to the immediate west (see photo below taken from a recent morning bike ride within 10 minutes of my house)
You can be skiing or snowboarding at 10,000 ft in Lee Canyon within 40 minutes of the city
Mt. Charleston is consistently 20-30 degrees cooler than the city at all times of year – amazing hiking, camping, and lodge/bar within 40 minutes of the city
You can be boating, wakeboard, jet skiing, or open water swimming on Lake Mead or Lake Las Vegas within 40 minutes of the city
We have a monsoon season with real rain! July to September – we get some fun storms and gorgeous lightening
It snows in Vegas (again photographic proof below)
We have real professional sports! NFL, NHL, WNBA, UFC, and likely soon-to-be MLB (sorry Oakland)
Vegas has been voted one of the most dog friendly cities in the country
According to yesterday’s statistics, approximately 70% of Clark County has received at least one dose of vaccine (science!)
Spread the news and come work with us - we’d love to have you (or someone you know) join our team! Official posting and details below – please do not hesitate to contact me or our HR if you have any questions.
