8pm - 9pm | Monday - Uninterrupted - TEDx Style talks

Uninterrupted is the Monday night programming series where a guest speaker or Intercultural Specialist presents on a topic that aims to develop cultural competency, helps to maintain a socially just and inclusive environment by addressing barriers and challenges, and builds supportive and collaborative relationships.

8pm - 9:30pm | Tuesday - Dialogue Across Differences - Open dialogues usually on the Center’s weekly topic

Following the Monday night program, the community will need time to debrief and/or dive deeper into the concepts that were introduced by the Monday night speaker. These dialogues are a reserved time and space for questions and further exploration of the main or sub topics presented in the Monday night program.

Wednesday Race Study Circles - Affinity Group Dialogues

Building on the momentum from the Monday night program and the Tuesday night dialogues, this affinity group dialogue is a closed space for members who hold ALANA identities. These dialogues are reserved time and space to intentionally recognize the complex and cumulative ways the effects of different forms of discrimination or advantage combine, overlap and intersect to inform the experiences of marginalized or privileged groups. Affinity groups will gather to dissect community concerns and hopefully map out solutions and action steps for individual and collective strength and wellness.

6pm - 9pm | Thursday Family Night - A night for movies, craft projects, and games

Annual Programs

ALANA Welcome Reception - Meet and greet for new students, faculty and staff to get acquainted with other members of the ALANA community. An incoming ALANA scholar’s first formal introduction to diversity at UAlbany as a Great Dane.

Spellman Awards - UAlbany’s award ceremony honoring ALANA scholars with G.P.A.s over 3.0

Cultural Carnival Co-Sponsor w/ SA - Tradition of UAlbany where student orgs gather to showcase their culture and encourage community engagement through cultural appreciation.

Intercultural Banquet - A tradition started by Liga Filipina, Fuerza Latina, Sankofa and ASUBA to showcase true cultural exchange and appreciation within the UAlbany community.

Visit the Cultural Craft Table display to learn about re-creating well-known artifacts from various cultures.

Programing: Presented by MRC Staff to bring awareness of race and racial issues to the University at Albany campus and community.

Annual MSAC Leadership Retreat

(Multicultural Student Advisory Council)

Made up of elected, appointed and emerging LGBT and ALANA student leaders on campus, the MSAC leadership retreat occurs every year before the start of the fall semester. The retreat includes
