The Albany Police Department is attempting to identify the pictured suspect in reference to an ongoing animal cruelty investigation. On Friday, January 27, 2023 the pictured suspect abandoned a female cat by placing the cat into a duffel bag style carrier and leaving the cat the next to garbage cans on Sherman Street near the intersection of Henry Johnson Boulevard. The cat was subsequently located by an Albany resident who notified Albany Animal Control. Upon their arrival, the Animal Control Officer took custody of the cat and turned her over to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society where she was evaluated and put up for adoption. The cat, who has been named “Newt,” is currently in good health and has since been adopted. At this time the investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to call Albany Animal Control at 518-462-7107 and leave a message for investigators. 100% anonymous tips may also be submitted to Capital Region Crime Stoppers online at www.capitalregioncrimestoppers.com or by downloading the free P3 Tips mobile app. The New York State Humane Association (NYSHA) is also offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the successful arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
