Albany Police Investigating Shooting

The Albany Police are currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the area of Madison Avenue and Ontario Street.

On Sunday, July 21, 2024 at around 3:20 a.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Madison Avenue for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located evidence consistent with gunfire.

Additionally, as officers were arriving on the 900 block of Madison Avenue staff from Albany Medical Center Hospital notified police that a 31-year old male and a 26-year old male had entered the emergency room with gunshot wounds.

The 31-year-old male sustained a gunshot wound to his hand and arm and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The 26-year-old male sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Preliminarily, it appears that the victims were struck with gunfire at a large gathering outside on the 900 block of Madison Avenue.

At this time the investigation remains active and ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Albany Detective Division at (518) 462-8039.

UPDATE:

Albany Police Investigating Shooting

Albany police are currently investigating a shooting that occurred on Madison Avenue.

On Saturday, July 20, 2024 around 4:45 p.m., officers responded to the area of Madison Avenue and Trinity Place for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, it was learned that a 27-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his buttocks was being self-transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Officers located the victim at Albany Medical Center Hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Preliminarily, it appears that the shooting stemmed from an isolated incident between the victim and a group of individuals.

In addition, the Albany Police Department’s Emergency Service Team was deployed after it was discovered that the group of individuals involved entered a residence on the 100 block of Madison Avenue after the shooting. Members of the Emergency Service Team executed a search warrant and it was determined that the residence was vacant. Upon searching the residence, located inside was a quantity of ma*****na, a quantity of pills, and other items of evidentiary value.

At this time the investigation remains active and ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Albany Police Detective Division at (518) 462-8039.

Attempt to locate missing juvenile

Albany police are attempting to locate 11-year-old Jaiyden Abear. Jaiyden was last seen on Friday, July 19, 2024 around 11:00 p.m. in the area of Academy Road and Helderberg Avenue. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and light color shoes.

At this time we are concerned for his safety.

Anyone who may know of Jaiyden’s whereabouts are asked to call The Albany Police at (518) 462-8039.

Arrest Made in North Lake Avenue Robbery

A 43-year-old Albany man who pushed and struck another man during a robbery on North Lake Avenue has been arrested.

At around 11:55 a.m., officers responded to the area of Clinton Avenue and North Lake Avenue for reports of a robbery. Upon arrival, the victim told officers that while walking in the area of North Lake Avenue and Elk Street he was approached by an individual who forcibly stole his property. During the incident, the victim was pushed to the ground and struck causing him to sustain injury to his hands and knee. The suspect fled the scene with his property prior to police arrival.

The victim was treated on scene for lacerations to his hands and knee.

A short time later, officers observed an individual matching the description of the suspect on foot in the area of Central Avenue and Quail Street. Naim Cook was stopped by officers and ultimately identified as the suspect in reference to the robbery and taken into custody.

Cook has been charged with one count of Robbery 2nd.

He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and Remanded to the Albany County Jail.

Arrest Made in Connection with Menacing Incident

A 25-year-old Albany Man has been charged in connection with a menacing incident that occurred yesterday evening on Green Street.

On Monday, July 15 2024 at around 4:45 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of South Pearl Street for reports of a person with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim had been menaced with a handgun while inside a residence on the 200 block of Green Street. A description of the suspect was broadcasted over police radio.

Shortly after the description was broadcasted, officers observed an individual matching the description of the suspect on foot and stopped him in the area of Schuyler Street and Franklin Street. Shareem Daniels was identified as the suspect in reference to the menacing incident and was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported at the time of the incident.

In addition, detectives executed a search warrant at the residence on the 200 block of Green Street in reference to the investigation. During the search warrant, detectives recovered a quantity of powder co***ne, crack co***ne, powder fentanyl, and crystal methamphetamine. Also recovered was a loaded high capacity magazine.

Daniels has been charged with one count of Menacing 2nd, one count of Unlawful Imprisonment 2nd, one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd, one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd.

He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court this morning and remanded to the Albany County Jail.

Arrest Made in North Pearl Street Domestic Related Shooting Incident

A 20-year-old Albany man has been charged in connection with a shooting incident that occurred yesterday evening on North Pearl Street.

On Friday, July 12, 2024 around 6:10 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of North Pearl Street for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, it was learned that a 26-year-old male had been shot in the hand and self-transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital.

The victim was treated at Albany Medical Center Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Members of the Albany Police Department quickly developed information that the suspect in the shooting fled in a vehicle. Ultimately, the vehicle was tracked to Congress Street in Troy, where members of the Troy Police Department stopped the vehicle and took all occupants into custody.

Through the investigation, Albany detectives determined that Stanford Jones Jr. and the victim had been involved in a physical altercation during which Jones shot the victim, causing him to sustain injury to his hand.

Jones has been charged with one count of Reckless Endangerment 1st, one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, and one count of Assault 2nd.

He is scheduled to be arraigned this morning in Albany City Criminal Court.

Arrest Made in Second Avenue Domestic Related Shooting Incident

A 33-year-old Albany Man has been charged in connection with a shooting that occurred Tuesday, July 9, 2024 on the 300 block of Second Avenue.

Maurice Steward was arrested Tuesday night following an investigation by members of the Albany Police Department.

On Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at around 5:15 p.m., officers responded to a residence on the 300 block of Second Avenue for reports of a domestic related shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers located evidence consistent with gunfire and a 19-year-old male who sustained injury to his foot.

Through the investigation, it was learned that Steward was involved in a physical altercation prior to the shooting with individuals who reside in a home on the 300 block of Second Avenue. Steward left the home, but a short time later returned with a handgun and fired in the direction of the victim causing him to sustain injury to his foot. Steward fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Information was broadcasted over police radio and ultimately Steward was taken into custody without incident on the 400 block of Myrtle Avenue.

Steward has been charged with one count of Attempted Murder 2nd and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd.

He is scheduled to be arraigned this morning in Albany City Criminal Court.

Arrest Made in Connection with Menacing Incident

Two individuals have been arrested and a handgun recovered following a call Tuesday afternoon on South Pearl Street.

On Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at around 1:25 p.m., officers responded to the area of Albany County Probation Services located at 60 South Pearl Street for reports of a person with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers learned that a 13-year-old male was involved in a verbal altercation with several individuals outside 60 South Pearl Street, during which he threatened them with a handgun. He fled the scene before police arrival with another individual who was present at the scene.

Through further investigation, it was determined that a 17-year-old who was originally in possession of the handgun gave it to the 13-year-old. Officers observed the 13-year-old male matching the description in the area of South Pearl Street and Beaver Street and attempted to stop him as part of the investigation. The individual fled on foot, but was ultimately taken into custody in the rear parking garage of 110 State Street. After a thorough search of the area by members of the Albany Police Department, a loaded revolver was recovered under a stairwell inside the parking garage which was reported stolen out of South Carolina.

Shortly after the call, The 17-year-old who was originally in possession of the handgun was observed in the area of Morton Avenue and Clinton Street by officers and taken into custody.

The 13-year-old whose name will not be released due to his age has been charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, four counts of Menacing 2nd, and one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th.

He was arraigned yesterday afternoon and remanded to the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility.

The 17-year-old whose name will not be released due to his age has been charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th, and one count of Criminal Sale of a Firearm to a Minor.

He was arraigned yesterday afternoon and remanded to the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility.

UPDATE ON DELAWARE AVENUE HOMICIDE

The victim in yesterday’s homicide on Delaware Avenue has been identified as 21-year-old Davyjian Grier.

At around 5:10 p.m., officers responded to the area of Delaware Avenue and Southern Boulevard for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 21-year-old man with gunshot wounds.

The victim was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and pronounced deceased.

Preliminarily, it appears that the victim and the suspect were involved in a dispute prior to the shooting. The victim was inside a vehicle when the suspect, who was on foot, fired upon the vehicle.

At this time the investigation remains ongoing.

At around 5:10 p.m., officers responded to the area of Delaware Avenue and Southern Boulevard for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 21-year-old man with gunshot wounds.

The victim was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and pronounced deceased.

Preliminarily, it appears that the victim and the suspect were involved in a dispute prior to the shooting. The victim was inside a vehicle when the suspect, who was on foot, fired upon the vehicle. The identity of the victim will not be released until proper notifications have been made.

At this time the investigation remains ongoing.

Albany Police Investigating Robbery

Albany Police are investigating a robbery that occurred Monday evening on North Manning Boulevard.

On Monday, July 8, 2024 at around 11:40 p.m., officers responded to Cameron’s Corner News, located at 20 North Manning Boulevard for reports of a robbery. Upon Arrival, an employee of the store told officers that a male entered the store with a long gun and demanded cash from the cash register. The employee complied and the male fled the store with the cash.

No injuries were reported during the robbery.

Albany Police Investigating an Assault

Albany Police are currently investigating an assault that occurred early this morning in the area of Grant Avenue and Hunter Avenue.

At around 2:40 a.m., officers responded to the area of Grant Avenue and Hunter Avenue for reports of an assault. Upon arrival, officers located a 31-year-old male with a severe laceration to his neck.

The victim was treated on scene by emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Through further investigation, it was learned that there was a large gathering at a residence on Grant Avenue resulting in a fight, during which the suspect threw a glass bottle at the victim causing him to sustain injury to his neck.

Approximately two hours later, staff from Albany Medical Center Hospital notified police that a 19-year-old male had entered the emergency room with a laceration to his elbow. It was determined that the victim had also been assaulted during the incident on Grant Avenue.

Arrest Made in Clinton Street Stabbing Incident

A 19-year-old Albany man has been charged in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred on Thursday, May 16, 2024 on the 100 block of Clinton Street.

On Thursday, May 16, 2024 at around 1:00 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Clinton Street for reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located a 31-year-old male with stab wounds to his back.

The victim was treated on scene by emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Through the investigation, Jonisaac Nazario was identified as the suspect and observed by an officer in the area of Washington Park on Thursday, July 4, 2024 where he was taken into custody.

Nazzario has been charged with one count of Assault 1st.

He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court this morning and Remanded to the Albany County Jail.

Albany Police are continuing to investigate a shooting incident that occurred early Friday morning on Myrtle Avenue.

At around 12:15 a.m., officers responded to a home on the 600 block of Myrtle Avenue for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located evidence consistent with gunfire in the rear yard of the residence and in the street. Officers determined the shooting incident occurred during a large gathering where six victims sustained gunshot wounds, but were no longer on scene.

At around 12:20 a.m., officers in the area of Hudson Avenue and Quail Street were flagged down by a 17-year-old male who sustained a gunshot wound to his arm. It was determined he was shot at the residence on the 600 block of Myrtle Avenue. He was treated at Hudson Avenue and Quail Street by emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

At around 12:25 a.m., staff from Albany Medical Center Hospital notified police that two victims entered the emergency room with gunshot wounds, it was determined that the victims were shot at the residence on the 600 block of Myrtle Avenue. Both victims are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Three other victims who sustained gunshot wounds and also present at the gathering on the 600 block of Myrtle Avenue self-transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital and are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

• A 16-year-old male from Schenectady sustained gunshot wounds to both legs.
• A 16-year-old male from Schenectady sustained a gunshot wound to his buttocks.
• A 17-year-old male from Albany sustained a gunshot wound to his arm.
• A 18-year-old male from Schenectady sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh.
• A 19-year-old male from Albany sustained a gunshot wound to his foot.
• A 19-year-old male from Troy sustained a graze bullet wound to his head and a gunshot wound to his elbow.
