Proud to be in a community that remembers 9/11. As someone stated last night in the debate that Jan. 6th was the worst attack on the United States since the civil war. I beg to differ. September 11th, 2001 was the worst attack on the United States since the civil war.

Jen’s Story
Prior to June 2014, I was a stay at home mom to three spectacular boys. In June of 2014, our lives drastically changed after I had a Clackamas County Sheriff say to me, “Ma’am, you are not raising boys you are raising men and they need to know that this behavior is unacceptable.”(speaking about my ex). He continued to speak as he pulled out a purple card from his vest with Domestic Violence Hotline numbers on it, “I can’t tell you what to do, but I highly encourage you to get a restraining order” and then he handed the card to me.
Fast forward through many months of hell to December 2015. The boys and I were a part of an organization called Gleaners that provided food for low-income families. We received an abundance of blackberries. I pondered what to do with all the blackberries. I froze most of them but then remembered I enjoy making cheesecakes for potlucks, holidays and special events and that I could make a Blackberry Cheesecake for the school staff as a group Christmas Gift. I delivered the cheesecake to them. The next day the school secretary asked me where I had got the cheesecake. I replied I had made it. She was shocked. It was at that moment, knowing I didn’t have much to spend on Christmas that I decided I would make cheesecakes as gifts that year for my family. The day after Christmas I posted a picture of the cheesecakes I made on Facebook with the comment, “Cheesecakes made with love by Jen.” To my surprise, I received three private messages asking if they could buy a cheesecake from me for New Years. WHAT?! They want to pay ME to make them a cheesecake? Unreal! I remember crying when my friend insisted that I take her money.
Making cheesecakes (Cheesecakes by Jen) became a small side hustle for me while I was going through a horrific divorce. They became a form of therapy for me as my brain stopped racing when I was making them. I was often told I should start my own store someday. Nope, I was going to be a Social Worker. In the meantime, I finished my Associates and was accepted into the School of Social Work at PSU. I started PSU Fall of 2016 then graduated with my Bachelors this past summer (2018).
