SAG Member Meetings - Our meetings are open to the public, so be sure to tell your friends, family and co-workers. Member meetings are the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m., except July, August, December, and June.
November’s presentation will be done by David Thayer, a new member of our artist family at the Guild.
David creates beautiful art with his camera and imagination. All of his images are sourced from original photographs, shot by the photographer, and manipulated to a painterly, (and sometimes abstract), form utilizing a variety of creative imaging methods. Some have referred to this as "magic".
Once the image is complete, the art is printed to a coated cotton canvas with archival inks. Further embellishment of the image is done by enhancing and highlighting the image with additional permanent color media, often including mica-infused paints. The final texture overlay is created with clear acrylic. David will explain his process in detail at our meeting.
After ten years in Belize and six successful shows as a solo artist, David has returned to the U.S. to continue his unique style of art and continue his new adventures in North Carolina.

Our Story

Stanly Arts Guild & Gifts is the premier marketplace & education center for visual arts in Stanly County. While opening in our current location in February, 2019, we operated under the name Falling Rivers Gallery for 11 years in downtown Albemarle, NC. Now, we’re just a few blocks away but we have an even better variety of wonderful handmade items to choose from. A few of the items we carry: pottery, oil, acrylic & watercolor paintings, photography, wood carvings, woodworking, stained glass & unique glass art, jewelry, bee products like honey, bee pollen & beeswax candles, soaps, lotions, lip balms, handmade quilts, hand painted glassware & lamps, copper repousse’, cards, graphic art, mixed media creations & more. We also offer workshops in multiple mediums & at multiple skill levels. We host monthly member meetings that are open to the public with speakers addressing a variety of interesting topics. We host multiple art shows, at & craft sales & fundraising events throughout the year, all posted on our page & website, www.stanlyartsguild.com.

The Guild was established in 1963 & opened its first brick & mortar home in 2007. We are a 501(c)(3) organization that depends on the generosity of our members & donations from the public to continue our mission of spreading the joy of visual art to all we come in contact with.
