Donor Tribute: Brendon Sokol Jr.

Brendon loved being with his friends and family and playing video games. He was especially proud of his Dodge Charger S**t Pack, which he enjoyed taking to car meets.

Days before his 19th birthday in August 2023, Brendon experienced a massive seizure and became a Donor Hero, saving the lives of others with his gifts.

Brendon’s grandmother, Anita, added his photo to her own Dodge Charger to honor his selfless legacy.

Shanon Pine became a donor hero on December 9, 2023, saving several lives by donating her organs, corneas and two heart valves.

Although she struggled with seizures and her disability, Shanon was a blessing who taught those in her life what love is.

Dawn has been a Senior External Affairs Coordinator with our sister organization, Tennessee Donor Services, for 17 years! It's always been important to her to have "purpose work" that enables her to make a difference in her community and beyond.

Stephen Kellett was born with Down syndrome and a heart condition that required a heart valve transplant to survive.

Thanks to his selfless donor hero, Stephen received his transplant and the opportunity to grow up and enjoy his favorite things in life, including cooking, hanging out with friends and enjoying the latest superhero movies!

Our sister organization, Tennessee Donor Services, allowed Stein an unprecedented opportunity to shadow an NRP recovery effort and gain an up-close understanding of the procedure.

New Mexico Donor Services is committed to recovering as many healthy organs for transplant as possible, and with revolutionary procedures like NRP, we are saving more lives every day.

Dying woman's "honor walk" before organ donation breaks hospital record 07/02/2024

Kara Peeks, a mother of three, made one final selfless decision by choosing to save lives as a donor hero on June 19.

Between 80 and 90 people, including hospital staff, family and friends, lined hospital hallways to pay their respects during Kara's honor walk.

This turnout broke the hospital's record for largest honor walk, and the clip received more than 65,000 views on Reddit!

At 31-years-old, Nathan Streeter became a donor hero, saving two lives with his gifts.

Nathan was born with cerebral palsy, but his diagnosis did not stop him from enjoying filmmaking, baseball and books and later giving the gift of life.

His legacy of sensitivity and love continues on in those he saved.

In recognition of National HIV Testing Day, let's celebrate the impact that the HIV Organ Policy Equity (HOPE) Act continues to have for HIV-positive patients on the transplant waiting list!

Signed on November 21, 2013, the HOPE Act permits organs from HIV-positive donors to be transplanted into HIV-positive patients, allowing more lives to be saved overall.

Remember: You can regardless of your HIV-status!

Donor Tribute: Gavin Cole

"My Gavin decided at 18 to become an organ donor. When his accident happened, we honored his decision. He lost his life on 11/28/21, and his donation surgery was on 12/02/21. Through donation, he saved five lives with six organs. I have a wonderful relationship with his heart recipient and his liver recipient. Gavin is our hero and a hero to many others in our community. He was a senior in high school preparing for his next adventure in life: college. Such a beautiful human!"
