The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) monitors six types of health-risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death and disability among youth and adults, including

1) behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence;
2) sexual behaviors that contribute to unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV infection;
3) alcohol and other drug use;
4) to***co use;
5) unhealthy dietary behaviors; and
6) inadequate physical activity.

YRBSS also measures the prevalence of obesity and asthma among youth and young adults.

Population-based data on these behaviors at the national, state, and local levels can help monitor the effectiveness of public health interventions designed to protect and promote the health of youth nationwide. Find out more and view the key findings at http://go.usa.gov/8SqG.

CDC has released new data from the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System on health risk behaviors among high school students. Whole Child Symposium Live 05/20/2014

This spring, ASCD held its first-ever Whole Child Symposium (WCS), a conversation about what we want for our children's future and what we need for their education today. Building on the success of the 2011, 2012, and 2013 Whole Child Virtual Conferences, the symposium took effective education discussions to a new level, expanding the global ASCD community role in education insight, analysis, and improvement discussions. These events offered participants an opportunity to interact with leading education thinkers, authors, and practitioners. These photos were taken during Whole Child Symposium Live on May 8, 2014 in the Knight Studio at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.
