We would like to share with our customers and our community that we have decided to close Lajo's Italian Market storefront on 8th Avenue by the end of the year. 64 years after it had been originally opened by the Laura family and 4 years after we purchased it, we are ready to make a shift and continue our family's legacy.

We will be opening The Market Basket Downtown. Inside of the former McCrory's building now known as Center City Market at 1306 11th Avenue. We will accompany six other amazing food and drink vendors.

Inspired by my grandparents Anthony and Lucy Petta that opened their store, The Market Basket in 1946 on the corner of 5th Avenue and 3rd Street and then taken over by my cousins the Colombo’s. With my Mom's and cousins Jimmy and his Mother Helen's blessing 30 years after the store closed we are so proud to be able to continue our family's legacy for future generations! This store will feature a variety of grocery items including fresh deli products and breads. Fresh meats including Lajo's sausage, fruits, vegetables, Italian specialty products, as well as many grocery and convenience items. We will also begin to offer delivery service in our community.

We will continue to keep our production facility up and running at full capacity at our current location and continue to produce our famous sausage. We will continue to serve all of our wholesale customers and continue to add more.

We know this will be a big change for our current customers, but we do hope that you will still come to see us downtown.

Over the next several months we will begin to transition to our new location as the construction wraps up. We ask you to be patient with us. We may not have all of the products that you may be looking for on our shelves, but we will continue to serve you at our 8th Avenue location until we are ready to move. We will be getting our holiday items in like our cakes, cookies, candies and fish. If you do have gift certificates we encourage you to come in and use them, however they will be honored at the new location as well until the expiration date.

Our new adjusted store hours moving forward will be Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. closed Saturdays and Sundays.

Farmer's Market Day once again!! Come to Heritage Square in Downtown Altoona and see what great items await! We have plenty of warm food for to fight the chilly weather. Our Italian Cheeses are back in stock! Did you know that our grated cheese is a multi-week process? Once we get it in from the distributor we slice it and then keep it on drying racks, then after 1 to 2 weeks we have to grate it , then we bag it. Also for your convenience we have half pound bags pre-cut of our Asiago and Sharp Provolone!

Are you ready for labor day? Stop by today until 3:00 to pick up some of your favorites! Whether you're picking up some sausage or steaks for the grill, or want to grab some of our already prepared hot meals! Today we are featuring macaroni and cheeseburger soup and barbecued pulled pork sandwiches!

Our butcher has just cut some beautiful New York strip steaks as well as some center-cut boneless pork chops! And as always our sweet, mild, hot, and Happy Valley sausage made fresh daily! Stop by until 3:00 p.m.

The long-awaited rebranding of Lajo's is finally here. Welcome to Lajo's Neighborhood Market. You will find a wide selection of Italian specialty items that you have grown to love over the years, but you will also find a wide variety of grocery items including fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh cuts of meats, expanded selections of canned goods , quick meals, and much more. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to stock our refrigerators, freezers, and our shelves until the store has our full new product line . If you come in our store and we are missing items that you would love to see on our shelves whether it is an Italian specialty product or regular grocery item just let us know and we will do our best to bring it into our inventory.
