Today in Ames history: On April 13, 1948 the Ames Jayceettes was created.
The Ames Jaycees (Junior Chamber) has been an influential group in the Ames community for generations. When it first started there was a separate club for the men and women, with the women being called the Jayceettes. Today both men and women are Jaycees, and they continue to enhance our community through projects and events.
In this photo, four Jayceettes (Laurene Taylor, Betty Daffin, Lou Ida Wulf, and Jo Newell) are wrapping prizes to give out at the State Jayceette Board Meeting which was held at the Memorial Union in September 1957.

The Ames Jaycees like to have fun! What type of event would you join us at? Last night a few of us participated in a member’s kids’ school trivia fundraiser. Team ‘We Tried’ may not have won but it was fun! A couple weeks ago the Ames Jaycees hosted a progressive dinner-restaurant style, ending at Hickory Park. Stay tuned to see what we are up to next-and join us!
Two weeks ago today, these two great Ames Jaycee members got married! Congratulations to Austin Minnihan and Katie Minnihan! We wish you a lifetime of happiness! (Sorry for the late post)
Thank you to all who joined us for our Leadership/Networking Speaker! A special thank you to Paul Crawford for being our guest speaker!
TWO WEEKS AWAY!
Chapter members are passionate about positively impacting the community. In addition to their own work, they support others doing good, like at the Georges Niang Golf Outing supporting ChildServe - Ames. In recognition of all his good work, Niang has been named a JCI USA TOYA (Ten Outstanding Young Americans) recipient for 2023. At the event chapter volunteers talked with golfers who entered into a drawing for prizes including a top prize from Inside Golf & Axe Throwing - North Grand Mall.
When RAGBRAI has an overnight stop in Ames, you can count on our members to lend a helping hand to welcome everyone. Members volunteered last night at the Downtown Ames block party serving up cold beverages while we got to listen to our favorite Burnin' Sensations on the main stage. As a bonus, we got to meet Jamie, a member of JCI Canada, who is riding the route and stayed with one of our members. Discover Ames
