What started as brainstorming for an Earth Day initiative turned into so much more and an incredibly rewarding experience for one team member. Excelsior Orthopaedics and Buffalo Surgery Center wanted to hold a clothing drive to keep textiles out of landfills and give clothes new life, but committee members weren’t sure of the best way to go about it. Lauren Piaskowski, of Buffalo Surgery Center, suggested the Niagara Falls City School District Clothing Closet. As a parent in Niagara Falls and a member of the District’s Parent Education Group, Lauren knew the district has many homeless students and felt concerned that poverty could be a barrier to kids’ success. The Clothing Closet -currently at Cataract Elementary School and being implemented throughout all district schools- serves any student in need or their family by allowing them to come “shop” for whatever they may need in a discreet and dignified way. Excelsior Orthopaedics and Buffalo Surgery Center were proud to deliver their donations this week.
