This training, for K-12 educators and school leaders, explores QED’s All Kinds of Minds™ Neurodevelopmental Framework for Learning (NDFL) to understand how the brain receives, filters, and uses information, and to consider how these insights can support classroom and school success. Participants can begin or elevate their understanding of the science of learning through academic themes that include listening, speaking, reading, and writing. During the 4-day virtual workshop, participants will develop a common language and framework to better understand and communicate the neurodevelopmental demands of learning and will leave with tools for next-day classroom use to support the academic, social, and emotional development of all learners.

“How do we develop as many expert teachers as possible?”
The Center for Transformational Teaching and Learning (with Glenn Whitman at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School) addresses the question in their article, “A Powerful Combo: Diversity, Equity, and Belonging and Mind, Brain, and Education”, which explores different strategies grounded in diversity, equity, and belonging (DEB), as well as the science of teaching and learning or mind, brain, and education (MBE).
“Together, DEB and MBE are a powerful combination for great teaching and make learning more equitable—and better for every student, not just people of color, not just students with learning differences.” Learn how they are interc***ected in the article https://www.nais.org/magazine/independent-school/winter-2022/a-powerful-combo-diversity-equity-and-belonging-and-mind-brain-and-education/ (link in bio)

New Aurora Institute Report - Agency by Design: Making Learning Engaging This new report from Aurora Institute offers guidance – including practical advice – to education leaders and teachers in redesigning schools and classrooms by centering on learner agency, through a shift in the ownership of learning.
From one of the most articulate and feaerless truth-tellers I know, Dr. Jeff Duncan-Andrade:
"Why do we take children by law from their families at age six for 13 consecutive years for eight hours a day? Why are we doing that?."The sole foundational purpose of public schools should be youth wellness.
"...Every school should make a promise to every family that when you drop your child off to us in the morning and turn your back and walk away, our promise to you is that when you come back and pick them up your child will be more well than when you dropped them off. Now, I can say as a skilled, accomplished educator that that’s impossible. You cannot do that for every child every day and that’s okay. That’s okay. But you have to make the promise to the society and to families that that is our foundational purpose is to make sure that they leave the building more well than when they came in. And when we miss the mark, which we will, we will own it and we will atone. And atonement means that you both apologize and you make it right. So you know when you miss the mark with a child, a child is leaving less well than when they came in the building, that you have to pour more medicine in on that child the next day. There’s a debt due. And every family and every child should know that that’s the project."
