Zodiaque Dance Company was honored to open and close the 2021 “Cathy Wendel Lista Showcase.” Usually held each spring live at the UB CFA, the showcase went virtual this year through the efforts of Cathy’s brother Mark Wendel. Congratulations to the Western New York area dance studios who shared in the celebration and memory of UB Theatre and Dancer alumna Cathy Wendel Lista. Cathy is smiling and dancing with all of WNY.

I am pleased to announce that Clinical Assistant Professor Kerry Ring will become the director for Zodiaque Dance Company (ZDC) as the Company begins its 43rd season in Fall 2016. On behalf of Tressa Gorman Crehan, ZDC's Managing Director, and myself as Artistic Director, we want to wish Professor Ring best wishes with her creative endeavors guiding ZDC, a tradition of excellence for UB Dance. Choreographers for the 42nd Fall Season include: Zodiaque and UB Dance alumni/faculty, Michael Lambert (faculty), Jon Lehrer (faculty), Leanne Rinelli, and Miranda Zimmerman; UB Dance Senior, Evanmatthew Stewart; UB Dance faculty, Shelley Hain, and Kerry Ring; and guest choreographer Hilary Easton from the Julliard School. Zodiaque Dance Company’s signature spring program features a spectacular run of dance infused with muscle, movement, emotion, and explosive chemistry. Closing its 41st season, the concert features wildly diverse contemporary and traditional works by members of the dance faculty, returning alumni, and guests that include new works by: Anne Beck, Jenna Delmonte, Jenny Laroche, Jon Lehrer, Meghen McKinley, Tracy Navarro, and Gino and Denise Vaccaro. Anne Beck ’93, BFA, (Guest Choreographer), an awarded choreographer, her work has been critically acclaimed. Professional credits include:
Saturday Night Fever (original Broadway cast); The Who’s Tommy (Sally Simpson);
CATS (Bombalurina); A Chorus Line (Cassie); and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes w/
Barbara Eden. Most recently she performed in, ON BROADWAY with Kander and Ebb.

Rebecca Wind,’02, BFA, (Honoree and Choreographer)
frequently adjudicates for dance competitive events across the United States and Canada. Currently, she is the director of Xtreme Talent Dance Convention. Her professional credits include: Las Vegas’ MGM Grand, Caesars Palace, Tropicana, and Rio, and in China in the production of Iron Beats.

Roberto Villanueva ’01, BFA, (Honoree and Choreographer),
is the Executive & Artistic Director of BalaSole Dance Company, in New
York City, the resident dance company of the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Hailed
by The New York Times for his technical virtuosity, Roberto has performed and taught

James Hergenroder ’05 and Carlie Todoro-Rickus ’99

James Hergenroder ’05(Lighting Designer),
graduated from the University at Buffalo with a BA in Theater in 2005. Since then, he has worked as the Lighting Shift Manager at the Seneca Niagara Casino, Lighting Director at Buffalo Laboratory Theatre, Assistant Technical Director of the Neglia Ballet, and numerous other tech/ design jobs in theatre, corporate, and rock and roll. This past year, James and his wife moved to LA to continue pursuing their dreams. James would like to thank his wife Lisa and his family for their
continued support. He would also like to dedicate his design to his Great Grandmother who passed in September at 99. She would have
turned 100 this week. Her life is an inspiration in love, happiness, and family.

Carlie Todoro-Rickus ’99 (Lighting designer),
is an artist and scenographer working with light on bodies in space. She collaborates with artists and choreographers including Configuration Dance, Future Dance, Erin Habes, LehrerDance, Mass Appeal, Brian Milbrand, Nimbus Dance, Project MIST, John Rickus, and Torn Space. Her current work focuses on site-specific performative installations. She investigates creating environments that support information to alter states of conscientiousness. Carlie is an Artist in Residence in the Arts in Healthcare Initiative at UB Center for the Arts, where she engages patients in the creative process and mentors dancers performing in the hospitals.

Matt Pardo ’07, BFA, (Gala Guest Performer),
was an Advanced Honor BFA in Dance. He has danced for the Lucinda Childs Dance
Company, Eisenhower Dance Ensemble, GroundWorks Dance Theater, Balasole
Dance Company, River North Chicago Dance Company (Apprentice), and on the world tour of the Philip Glass and Robert Wilson opera, Einstein on the Beach. He is a member of the Actors Equity Union and has been rated one of the top 100 Dancers in the world for 2010- 2011 by Dance Europe Magazine.

Tressa Gorman Crehan, MS, (Honoree, Choreographer, Managing Director),
is a UB Clinical Assistant Professor and the Managing Director of Zodiaque Dance Company. She is currently the Modern Dance core faculty person for Dance Masters of America National Teachers’ Training School. She is the founding director of Emerging Choreographers Showcase and the UB Summer Dance Program. A recipient of the prestigious Milton Plesur Excellence in Teaching Award, Tressa has chaired three American College Dance Festival events at UB (2003, 2005, 2007).

Tracy Navarro ’99 and Rebecca Wind ’02, (Honorees and Choreographers),
are the Founders and Co-Directors of Infinity Dance Project, a pre-professional dance company for high school students, which prepares talented young dancers for both a college bound dance experience and the professional world of dance arts.

Tracy Navarro, BFA, an award winning choreographer,
is currently on the UB Theatre & Dance faculty. She has taught for all major
dance organizations throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico and is the core jazz dance instructor for Dance Masters of America National Teachers’ Training School. Her professional credits include: Footloose in Las Vegas and the national tour of Chicago.

Donna Massimo, BFA, MA, (Honoree and Design Mentor),
is a member of the United Scene Artists and the Costume Shop Manager for UB
Theatre & Dance and the Center for the Arts. A three time
Artvoice Artie Award winner, Donna’s costume designs have reached a wide
audience on many stages including Shakespeare in Delaware Park, Studio Arena and
Kavinoky theatres, Jewish Repertory Theatre and Neglia Ballet Artists.

Meet one of our Zodiaque Dance Company Directors’ Award Honorees

Lynne Kurdziel Formato ’85, MAH, (Honoree),
is currently an Associate Professor of Performing Arts at Elon
University and maintains a busy professional career as
a Director/Choreographer. A proud member of the Society of Stage Directors
and Choreographers (SDC), Lynne has over three hundred productions to her credit,
most recently directing & choreographing the European premiere of Disney’s ALADDIN.
Professionally her work has been seen in productions at Artpark in Lewiston NY, Tennessee Repertory Theatre in Nashville, Arkansas Repertory Theatre in Little Rock, Musicalfare Theatre in Amherst, NY and Dollywood Theme Park in Pigeon Forge, TN.

Meet our Zodiaque Dance Company Distinguished Alumni honorees every Friday up until the Celebration 40 concert and gala on November 16th.

Shelley Hain ’79 and Joyce Miller Lichtenberger ’81,
(Honorees and Choreographers), are both UB Dance faculty members and
Founders of UB’s Dancers’ Workshop, a student organization that offers performing opportunities for both the Department of Theatre & Dance and the university community. Shelley Hain, MAH, is a Licensed Massage Therapist with a private practice. She facilitates the UB Dance Body Lab focusing on massage for
dance majors in the department. In addition to being on staff with Wellness Education Services at UB, Shelley is also on faculty in the Health and Physical Education Department at Niagara County Community College. Joyce
Miller Lichtenberger, MA, is the owner and director of DANCECENTRAL and a past associate director for UB’s Zodiaque Dance Ensemble. Joyce has presented for both Dance Masters of America Teachers’ Training School and the nationally recognized Student Honors Intensive Program (SHIP).

The company exhibits a tremendous range of styles and repertory and fosters tradition, while continuing to encourage the creation of new works by faculty, students, alumni and guest choreographers.
