Nonosina Polynesia
Nonosina Polynesia Our story begins with our tupuna, Estella Reid. A native to American Samoa from the village of Faleniu, our founder was born in 1934.
Estella eventually voyaged the crystal seas of the Pacific and came to the shores of Lāʻie, Oʻahu, Hawai’i in 1946 where our roots still grow. Estella sought new endeavors in which eventually led her to California in 1950. In 1965 NONOSINA music and dance company was born from humble Polynesian beginnings and will celebrate 57 years of heART this year, 2022! Rest in love to our founder and guiding

Out of all the remarkable events Nonosina Polynesia has been a part of this year, the Hōkūleʻa festival in Marina Del Rey stands out as having the most profound cultural significance.
The Hōkūleʻa originally launched on March 8th, 1975 from the shores of Hakipu’u-Kualoa (Kāne’ohe Bay, O’ahu). The Hōkūle’a is a traditional double-hulled voyaging canoe “wa’a kaulua” without modern adaptation of technology & has played a defining role in the history of Polynesian people. It launched a revitalization of Polynesian culture on many levels. Our opportunity to perform and offer our heartfelt dance, chants, and songs to the Hōkūleʻa was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It was our way of sending her back home with love, mana, and appreciation for her extraordinary contributions.
To our cast & family members: Nonosina Polynesia remains at the forefront of preserving and promoting our rich cultural heritage. Your support and involvement are the driving forces behind these accomplishments, and we eagerly anticipate more exciting opportunities in the future. Thank you for being an integral part of our journey. MAHALO PIHA!
Happy 75th Birthday MATANIUFEAGAIMALEATA JOHNSON! 🎉✨
I want to start by expressing my heartfelt gratitude to Gram for creating Nonosina and leaving behind a powerful legacy. Your vision and dedication have provided us with incredible opportunities, like the one we had yesterday. I am forever indebted to you for the foundation you laid and the doors you opened. The impact of your creation continues to resonate, giving us a platform to shine and share our talents. Thank you, Gram.
To my selected cast, I want to extend my deepest thanks for bringing your exceptional mana and spirit to each dance. Your dedication and hard work shine through, and I am grateful for the opportunity to create magic & be story tellers, together.
A special thank you goes to DJ for inviting us yet again to perform for something so sacred and special. Your belief in us and your guidance have been instrumental to us all. Thank you for pushing us to be our best and for always inspiring us to reach higher. We look forward to doing this again!
And finally, to ATA, on your special day, I want to send my warmest wishes and heartfelt gratitude. Thank you for being such a wonderful and welcoming presence in our lives. Your kindness and warmth have made a lasting impact on all of us. May this birthday bring you immense joy, love, and blessings. Manuia lou a*o fanau, ATA!

Māuruuru roa Kehau & the dancers of Arato’a for a Saturday filled with amazing workshops!
We were so fortunate to have a teacher straight from the source come and be in our creative space. It’s not everyday you have a GOAT in town! We were happy to open our doors to the public to come and learn a bit of Kehau’s philosophy. Kehau’s main goal was to not concentrate on speed or choreography rather to concentrate on dancing within, dancing like the elements & with love and respect.
Thank you to those who participated this weekend, and if you missed out this time don’t worry as we will always try our best to share our respected resources by hosting workshops!
Spots are filling up quickly! Today is your last day to register 🔥 See you there!

One Love 🇹🇴
Thank you x for this event in efforts to help our brothers and sisters in Tonga during this time of need.
Thank you to our cast of dancers & drummers and their families for making this possible. We appreciate all of your time & talent for this event.
Our Tongan section was a collective effort of our Tongan families of Nonosina featuring our Mataele family and descendants of Uncle Lucky & Aunty Nyoka Mataele. And of course we had to feature the voice of our very own Voka Mataele leading “Vaka Nonosina” that was gifted to Gram by Uncle Lucky Mataele Sr. Thank you Falemei Liti for the choreography for our girls and special shot out to our cute little flag wavers!
We send you our love, support & mana always.
