Some good resource from a customer and friend Leland Weinberg about pet health care.
Guide Dogs for the Blind Pet Ambassador & Alliance of Therapy Dogs, therapy dog, Frito says. “I was lying on the couch this morning & started to think about how & what information I can provide to pet owners to ensure their cats & dogs are being provided the best healthcare. In doing so, I came up with what I believe are details on four of the most important pet healthcare topics that pet owners should be aware of. They are as follows: Vaccinations, Cancer in Pets, Internal Parasites in Cats & Dogs & Coccidiosis. Because of my inability to read & type, through K9 inspiration, I am providing you an outline of these topics below from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) & Cornell University. Any questions about each of these topics should always be provided to your veterinarian. A matter of concern that I have always had & that I believe is very important is that pet owners should be aware that Canine Parvovirus & Coccidiosis have similar symptoms, however, Canine Parvovirus is caused by a virus & is more severe than Coccidiosis which is caused by a protozoa. Either of these diseases can be dangerous for very young puppies infected by them because their immunity systems have not been fully developed & prompt treatment is essential. Again, any questions on these two topics should be provided to your veterinarian. In addition, many people ask me about getting a dog to be trained as a therapy dog from service dog organizations such as Canine Companions, or a career change dog from Guide Dogs for the Blind. Because of the long wait to get a dog, please also consider going to a rescue organization or shelter first, In doing so, before you purchase the dog, ensure the dog has had its proper vaccinations, have the dog looked at by your veterinarian, & inquire of whether the facility has had an outbreak of Canine Parvovirus, Coccidiosis or other contagious diseases (this also includes breeders, service dog organizations & boarding/kennel facilities). If so, ask them what measures were taken to handle the outbreak such as isolating the infected dogs from the healthy ones, & cleaning the facility. Your veterinarian can provide the best answers to these questions.”

10 Summer Safety Tips in Keeping Your Dog Safe in the Summer Months
From the early days of human history, dogs have been more than just pets. They’ve been protectors, companions, and extensions of their owners' personalities. Today, we delve into the various types of men and the dogs they choose to accompany them, uncovering the stories behind these faithful partnerships.
1. Hydration is Key
Just like humans, dogs can become dehydrated quickly, especially in hot weather. Ensure your dog has access to fresh, clean water at all times. Carry a portable water bottle and bowl when you’re out and about. Monitor your dog for signs of dehydration, such as excessive panting, dry nose, and lethargy.
2. Never Leave Your Dog in a Hot Car
Leaving your dog in a parked car, even for a few minutes, can be extremely dangerous. The temperature inside a car can rise rapidly, leading to heatstroke or even death. If you need to run errands, it’s best to leave your dog at home where it’s cool and safe.
3. Limit Exercise on Hot Days
While exercise is important for your dog’s health, it’s crucial to adjust their routine during the summer. Avoid walking or exercising your dog during the hottest parts of the day, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Opt for early morning or late evening walks when temperatures are cooler. Be mindful of the ground temperature as well; hot pavement can burn your dog’s paws. Test the pavement with your hand – if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog.
4. Provide Shade and Cool Areas
Ensure your dog has access to shaded areas and cool places to rest, whether at home or outdoors. A shaded backyard, a cool room with a fan, or a spot under a tree can provide much-needed relief from the heat. You can also set up a kiddie pool for your dog to splash around in and cool off.
5. Watch for Signs of Heatstroke
Heatstroke is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition. Signs of heatstroke in dogs include excessive panting, drooling, rapid heart rate, vomiting, diarrhea, and collapse. If you suspect your dog is suffering from heatstroke, move them to a cooler area immediately, offer small amounts of water, and contact your veterinarian right away.
6. Protect Against Pests
Summer also means an increase in pests like fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes, which can carry diseases harmful to your dog. Use veterinarian-recommended flea and tick preventatives, and keep your dog’s environment clean and pest-free. Regularly check your dog for ticks after outdoor activities and remove them promptly if found.
7. Grooming and Coat Care
Regular grooming helps keep your dog’s coat in good condition and can help them stay cool. Brush your dog frequently to remove loose fur and prevent matting. However, avoid shaving your dog’s coat unless advised by a vet, as their fur provides protection from sunburn and helps regulate body temperature.
8. Swimming Safety
Swimming can be a great way for your dog to cool off, but always supervise them around water. Not all dogs are natural swimmers, and even those who are can get into trouble. Use a doggy life jacket if you’re at the beach, lake, or pool, and rinse your dog off after swimming to remove chlorine or saltwater.
9. Healthy Diet and Portion Control
Maintaining a healthy diet and proper portion control is important year-round, but especially in summer when the heat can affect your dog’s appetite and energy levels. Ensure they’re getting balanced nutrition and adjust portions if necessary to prevent weight gain or loss.
10. Know Your Dog’s Limits
Every dog is different, and some breeds are more susceptible to heat than others. Brachycephalic breeds (like Bulldogs and Pugs) and older or overweight dogs are at higher risk for heat-related issues. Pay close attention to your dog’s behavior and be proactive in providing a safe and comfortable environment tailored to their needs.
By taking these precautions, you can ensure that your pup enjoys a safe and happy summer. Keep an eye on the weather, plan your activities accordingly, and always prioritize your dog’s well-being. Here’s to a fun and safe summer with your pups!

Happy Father's Day!
The Type of Men and their Dog Breeds
From the early days of human history, dogs have been more than just pets. They’ve been protectors, companions, and extensions of their owners' personalities. Today, we delve into the various types of men and the dogs they choose to accompany them, uncovering the stories behind these faithful partnerships.
The Adventurer and His Husky
For the man with a taste for the wild, the Husky is a natural choice. These dogs, with their thick fur and boundless energy, are a reflection of their owner’s love for the great outdoors. Adventurers often seek companions that can keep up with their lifestyle, and Huskies, known for their stamina and love of running, are perfect trail buddies. Whether it’s hiking through rugged terrains or mushing across snowy landscapes, this duo is always ready for the next challenge.
The Gentleman and His Labrador Retriever
Elegant yet friendly, the Labrador Retriever is the quintessential dog for the classic gentleman. These men often value loyalty and good manners, traits mirrored by their loyal Labs. Labs are known for their even temperament and ability to bond deeply with their families. A gentleman with a Labrador by his side often shares a story of mutual respect and unwavering companionship. This pair is often seen enjoying serene walks in the park or engaging in friendly games of fetch.
The Tech-Savvy Guy and His Border Collie
In the fast-paced world of technology, the tech-savvy man often finds a kindred spirit in the Border Collie. Known for their intelligence and agility, Border Collies thrive on mental stimulation and problem-solving. These dogs match their owners’ knack for thinking on their feet and adapting to new challenges. Together, they often explore activities that keep their minds sharp, like agility courses or advanced training exercises.
The Family Man and His Golden Retriever
For the family-oriented man, the Golden Retriever is the ideal partner. Gentle, affectionate, and endlessly patient, Golden Retrievers embody the qualities of a loving family man. These dogs are great with kids and fit seamlessly into family life, often becoming a beloved member of the household. This pairing enjoys a harmonious life filled with family picnics, playful moments, and shared responsibilities in raising a happy, balanced family.
The Lone Wolf and His German Shepherd
The lone wolf, independent and often misunderstood, finds a perfect match in the German Shepherd. Known for their strength, loyalty, and protective nature, German Shepherds resonate with men who value courage and a sense of duty. These men often have a deep, unspoken bond with their dogs, built on mutual respect and trust. Together, they navigate life’s challenges with a sense of purpose and a shared understanding.
The Free Spirit and His Mixed Breed
For the free spirit, rules and conventions are merely suggestions. These men often gravitate towards mixed-breed dogs, appreciating their uniqueness and unpredictability. Just as their owners defy categorization, mixed breeds embody a blend of characteristics, often making them wonderfully adaptable and resilient. This duo celebrates diversity and the joy of unexpected surprises, thriving on spontaneity and living life to its fullest.
The Urban Sophisticate and His Small Dog
In the bustling cityscape, the urban sophisticate often opts for a small dog like a Pug or Chihuahua. These men, who appreciate the finer things in life, choose small dogs for their portability and charming personalities. Pugs, with their distinctive faces and affectionate nature, and Chihuahuas, known for their spunky attitudes despite their size, make perfect companions for city living. Whether they’re navigating the city streets or enjoying a quiet evening at a cozy café, this duo exudes a stylish, carefree vibe. Their bond is a blend of practicality and affection, embodying a modern take on companionship in a fast-paced world.
There you have it dog dads everywhere.
