Are you watering efficiently? Save water and money while reducing the peak load on water facilities!
💦 IRRIGATION/WATERING TIPS:
• Test irrigation systems each spring to ensure there are no leaking sprinkler heads and that each head is properly directing its spray onto the turf and landscape.
• Don’t water every day, consider an every–other–day schedule with one day off so you can keep the same day rotation. (i.e. take Mondays off and water Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays)
• Avoid watering during the hottest part of the day, water before 10 a.m. or after 5 p.m.
• For in–ground irrigation systems, install a moisture sensor that will turn off the irrigation system during its normal run cycle when there has been sufficient rainfall.
• When possible, avoid laying sod or grass seed during the month of July and the first three weeks of August. These typically are the hottest months of the year. New sod has no established root system and therefore requires daily watering during hot summer days to keep it alive. Grass seed is also best used during the fall.

Never drain water from pools, spas or hot tubs into your sump pump, the street, gutter or storm drain.
• The same levels of chemicals like chlorine and copper that are used to keep your pool safe for swimmers can be harmful to fish and wildlife.
• Contrary to popular belief, salt water pools are not environmentally friendly, salt water generates chlorine and produces the chemical byproduct bromoform, which is harmful to aquatic life.
𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙤 𝙄 𝙙𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙥𝙤𝙤𝙡 𝙤𝙧 𝙨𝙥𝙖?
1. Prepare the water to be drained, test:
•Discontinue the addition of salt and chlorine. (Pro tip: Three days of sunlight can reduce chlorine levels)
•Test the water to ensure chlorine is below 0.1 mg/L and the pH is between 6.5 and 8.5 prior to draining.
2. Drain your pool
•Via the sanitary sewer*
o Drain your pool directly to the sanitary sewer via a drain in your home.
o Important note, most sump drains connect directly to the storm drain and our waterways, do not drain your pool through your sump pump.
*Preferred pool draining option for chlorine & only option for salt water pools.
•Via your lawn**
o Drain tested and properly ph balanced water over a 15 foot flat grassy or landscaped area (no paved surfaces).
o Keep the water flow low to prevent erosion of soil and vegetation.
**Secondary option for draining chlorine pools only. Never drain salt water into storm drain.
