Hello! Welcome to By Chance, a project designed by an Orbis team. Our team started with the broad idea of unexpected accidents. We had the question: what obstacles and changes occur when someone is affected by an unexpected accident, and/or lifelong injuries? Through our process, we’ve designed a community-based program. Our goal is to connect volunteers within the community with families affected by accidents and injuries. The volunteer would serve not only as a reliable friend and supporter but also as a helping hand for household tasks to ease the adjustment to a new normal. Currently, we are hoping to have a backlog of volunteers willing and ready to create an impact in the community. In our excitement to post information about the community garden mural, we made two mistakes that we feel terrible about. Mistake #1: We should have given credit to all of the students involved in the project: Caeden de Bruin and Chloe Bredice (co-designers/organizers/painters) and Kam Dikeman, Tomy San Martin, Rhett Whichman, Alana Crawford, Logan Sobaski, and Sophia Taylor (painters). Mistake #2: We posted a photo of the mural before some additional elements were added. A new photo is posted here. The mural is gorgeous, the students are gifted and amazing, and we hope this post lets everyone know how much we appreciate them.

Weekly Spotlight #11! This Orbis group, Lax, is working to spread awareness of lacrosse to local youth. They have visited elementary schools throughout Ankeny to teach kids how to play lacrosse and how to get involved. This group has done a great job!

The Footie Central Association team is working hard to make a difference in the youth soccer community and provide a space for them to play soccer. Stay tuned for more information about how you can help this new space come to life! Kick It Forward
