Mike Pantelides
Candidate for Anne Arundel County District 6
Husband, Father, and Former Mayor of Annapolis Mike Pantelides became the Mayor of Annapolis in December 2013.
During his time in office, Mayor Pantelides succeeded in improving public safety, stopping overdevelopment, helping the businesses community, fixing the city's budget to avoid tax rate increases, and creating an open and transparent government. He is a 3rd generation Annapolitan and lives in the city with his wife Alexandra and son Luca John. As a lifelong resident, Mike ran for Mayor because he c
Wishing you a very merry Christmas and a happy holiday season from The Pantelides family!
Happy Birthday to my amazing wife Alexandra I love you so much.
This week Luca turned 3! We had such a great time celebrating. Daddy and Mommy love you very much.
I would like to start by thanking everyone who has helped me throughout this entire campaign. Thank you to my family who have always been there for me. To my incredible volunteers and supporters, thank you for helping me and believing in my message. With your help we were able to reach thousands of voters. You gave your time and money supporting my vision to fix the many problems in our county.
Although we took the lead on election day, last night after the most recent mail in ballots were counted, my opponent's lead grew. As more ballots are counted, we can assume that lead will increase. As a result, I called Lisa this morning to concede.
I ran for county council because I know this county deserves better. We focused on local issues such as fighting crime, lowering taxes, and improving education. I knew we had an uphill battle and it was a tough election year with the divisiveness at the national level. Still, we received a record number of votes for a challenger. That would not have been possible without your help.
Although the numbers did not turn in our favor, please know I will continue to be an advocate for this county. I will remain committed to looking for opportunities to give back. I am blessed to have all of your support and will never forget it.
Thank you
Mike Pantelides
Thank you to all the voters who came out to vote!

I want to express my sincere appreciation to everyone of you who came out to vote, put out a sign, shared posts with their friends, donated and volunteered for our campaign.
We will do our best to keep you updated as results come in.

There has been some discussion around the campaign mailer that was sent out about over-development in Anne Arundel County. The purpose of the mailer was to educate people on what is going to be built and show that my opponent and I have different records and visions when it comes to development.
Many people were shocked to learn that 758 apartments are coming to Riva Road. Instead of a Wegmans we are going to have 508 high density apartments on Riva Road.
Ms. Rodvien felt as though she had been misrepresented and issued a statement. I immediately reached out to her to set up a time to talk. We had a long conversation about the mailing and development in general. I have edited my response to include some items she wanted mentioned.
We have different records when it comes to development. When I was Mayor of Annapolis, I passed the first law in the city’s history to stop development when schools were overcrowded. Lisa Rodvien voted for a bill that would allow development, even when schools were overcrowded.
Below is a link to the County’s official government website. Bill 12-20 Subdivision and Development – Adequate School Facilities Workforce Housing – exempts residential developments that meet the conditions for workforce housing from the test for adequate school facilities – adds the conditions for the exemption Article 17 EFFECTIVE 7/19/20
https://www.aacounty.org/departments/county-council/legislation/bills-and-resolutions/an-ordinance-concerning-subdivision-and-development--adequate-school-facilities--workforce-housing
There are two laws in Anne Arundel County that allow development to happen when schools are overcrowded one that Lisa Rodvien supported and one that passed by a previous council.
In the mailer it had referenced the other bill passed by a previous council. To be clear, the bill that Ms. Rodvien supported would not have allowed the two developments to go through since it was covered by the other law. I apologized to her for referencing the other bill.
The fact remains she introduced a bill that would allow development when schools are overcrowded and I passed a law that would stop development when schools are overcrowded.
Some people online believe I mislead them and say Councilwoman Lisa Rodvien has never supported building high density developments.
Here are the facts:
In a League of Women Voters Questionnaire they asked. What are your views on affordable housing in Anne Arundel County?
Lisa Brannigan Rodvien “Our county has a shortage of affordable housing. At the same time, we have conservation needs. The best way to balance these two is to encourage higher density and lower cost housing near transit hubs, sometimes called transit oriented development. This can help provide new housing while at the same time minimizing new traffic and providing access to the transit needed to reach employment.”
In a Baltimore Sun Questionnaire they asked. What do you see as the most pressing issue the county faces and how would you address it?
“The need for affordable homes in safe communities is the most pressing need in our county. However, it must be balanced with our need to maintain natural spaces and our precious environment. Transit oriented development is the best way to achieve this balance. New higher density housing can be built close to transit such as MARC stations or the forthcoming transit center that will be built near Annapolis mall. Neighborhoods will be safest when every resident has better alternatives to crime. Connecting individuals who might otherwise engage in criminal activity to reliable transportation, affordable housing, mental health resources, conflict mediation, job training, and good paying jobs will help us take a bite out of crime.”
You can read her response by clicking on the link below

The last item is she said she never supported these two developments. So I asked her if she was opposed to the two projects on Riva Road and I would write that in this statement. She wouldn’t say whether she supported or opposed the developments. I could have said she didn’t fight against these developments which is true, and I would have if I was on the council.
There is a lot more I could write about this but I am trying to be fair and keep it short.
We have both run campaigns talking mainly about our accomplishments and plans for the future. Development is an important issue and I wanted to highlight our differences and share my record with you.
