Councilwoman Lisa Rodvien and I have two completely different plans for development. Her decision to support the two new Riva Road developments was WRONG. These projects will add 758 apartments to an already highly congested road. We already have too much traffic on Riva Road–758 additional cars will only make it worse. Councilwoman Rodvien voted on a bill to grant an exemption to school capacity limits to move these projects forward. Is this the leadership we need? Rodvien stated in a Baltimore Sun questionnaire that the most pressing issue facing the county is affordable housing and high density housing like that going up on Riva Road is the solution. During my time as Mayor of Annapolis, I stood up to this kind of reckless development and stopped the original Crystal Spring project off Forest Drive. The plan was never approved and not a single house was built while I was Mayor. As Councilman for District 6, I will continue to fight against thoughtless over-development that adds more traffic to our roads and overcrowds our schools. Elections are about the future. Crime is the biggest issue I hear about in our community – people don't feel safe in their homes or going downtown. The biggest issue that I hear from the community is crime. People don't feel safe in their homes or going downtown. There have been 17 people shot since November! I have been a strong supporter of the police. As Mayor I did a number of things to address crime. We had historic funding when I was Mayor of Annapolis and I allocated money for 10 new officers and extra overtime. I started a body camera program, established community policing programs to help build trust in the community and partnered with the state police. We also worked to create more jobs and opportunities as reducing crime can't be solved by law enforcement alone. We need more services for mental health and drug addiction. We worked together on the County's Safe Stations initiative to combat the Opioid Crisis by making our Police and Fire Stations a place where people could seek treatment with no questions asked. The Annapolis Renewable Energy Park is another example of #Annapolis leading the way in clean renewable energy for Maryland. When completed, the Annapolis Renewable Energy Park will bring 200 green jobs and $4 Million in revenue to the city over 20 years.
