Memorial Day ceremony at the Service Memorial in downtown Apex. Honor and respect to the men and women who went forward knowing the risk, to defend our nation. They made the ultimate sacrifice for us to live in the land of the free and home of the brave.

God bless our nation and our troops.

The incident that occurred yesterday which resulted in the tragic deaths of officers in the city of Charlotte is beyond comprehension.

As a retired officer, the sacrifice made by law enforcement officers is deeply personal. The dedication of police officers around the nation must be recognized and never be underestimated.

My love, prayers and support will continue. I ask that all members of our community join me in standing in solidarity with the community of the city of Charlotte, the law enforcement officers recovering from their injuries and families of the law enforcement officials involved.

Honoring Charles Thomas Weeks, a U.S. Marshal assigned to the Fugitive Task Force, Samuel "Sam" Poloche, with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, William "Alden" Elliot, with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, and Joshua Eyer, a 6-year veteran of the Charlotte Police Department.

He did it! BLC graduate Michael Blaney graduated from the Durham Police Department police academy and was sworn in as officer during the ceremony. Officer Blaney received the top academic award for having the highest GPA in the academy.

Congratulations to Officer Blaney, a new member of the Durham Police Department family, Durham’s finest!

Congratulations to BLC Assistant Coach Richard Shout on winning his first collegiate basketball game as head coach today against Mid-Atlantic Christian University! The Thoroughbreds accomplished a clean sweep on the Mustangs this season improving to 5-1 in the NSAC and 11-4 overall. Go Thoroughbreds!

Students continue to enhance their communication skills in Fundamental of Speech Communications COM201. This session included more public speaking and debate through role play practical exercises. We have some gifted speakers!

An official review of scoring by the New South Athletic Conference (NSAC) and our athletics department revealed Sam Benton Jr. scored 47 pts against Mid Atlantic Christian University on 1/30/24. A total of four more points than the unofficial report released on 1/30/24.

Sam Benton Jr. now holds the BLC Men’s Basketball record for most points scored in a game. Jorge Garcia held the record of scoring 45 points against SC F&M on February 24, 2018. Garcia still holds the most 3-pt baskets in one game at 10.

We think and dream bigger when we hear from Professor James Johnson.

Mr. Johnson has devoted time to BLC since the beginning! He is a longtime community servant who dedicated 30 years of his life as a NYPD police officer.

He continues to provide hope and opportunities to many as Director of Wake County Workforce Development Re-entry program.

Our students left the session inspired.

Today and everyday we honor iconic leader, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who sacrificed his life for all. His legacy and dream of freedom and equality for all, will live on through the mission of Blue Lights College everyday.

Blue Lights College is a place of discovery. The start of Spring Semester 1 delivers COM201, Fundamentals of Speech Communication. This class provides an opportunity for students to move past mind limitations and tap into possibilities through the gifts they already possess. They are just getting started and having fun in this new journey.

Since 2017, Blue Lights College Men’s Basketball program has stood the test. Thankful for all the coaches along the way who have contributed to our success.

This team, under Head Coach Nolan Adams, have significantly expanded the Blue Lights College name which will ultimately attract more purpose driven individuals to consider enrollment. Blue Lights College President Jacques K. Gilbert stated, “Coach Adams since day one, has demonstrated amazing leadership and success in building young men. This is a driven group of passionate individuals who will continue to develop and live out faith, purpose, and trust.” This is Blue Lights College!
