Throw back Thursday
Shamrocks European Scrambles, second overall & second in class. I lead from the start for most the first lap until I lost the ribbon. Followed the leader never more than fifty yards behind right to the checkers. Less than a second separated us. Did I mention I was on a flat rear tire for most the last lap, I guess I should be getting used to flats by now...Thanks to B&B Cycles, AS Racing and racersfitnessedge.com. The Shakeology for breakfast and the E&E drink before the start makes a difference (maybe I should feed it to my tires).
B&B Cycles put together a six man team to take-on the HYD Glen Helen 24 hr. Endurance Race. We were entered in the business class which were sponsored teams made up of primarily professional racers and experts. Our team was made up primarily of sportsman class riders, our goal was to finish and have fun doing it. The latest off-road adventure was to say the least at about endurance. Not that we rode great distances or were even on the bike for very long. Each lap was about 9.5 miles and was very technical. The course included two motocross courses, a section of single track along ridge lines where a wrong move would put you over a vertical drop-off into a 20-30 ft. riven. Then we were sent through a winding and twisting handlebar wide canyon. A short respite on a dirt road brought us to a rock and boulder strewn downhill dry "waterfall" section that was like being in free fall for about a mile bringing us to a nice section of asphalt road that lasted 3/4 of a mile transitioning to a dirt trail across the mountain ridge with a beautiful view of the San Bernardino Valley descending back onto the motocross/tractor tire jump and onto pit row. Add in 12hrs. of riding in the dark with what turned out to be some very good lights set up on our night bike, a 650 Honda, that was not exactly set up for tight trails but fun none the less. Ultimately we accomplished our goal and had an experience that can't be duplicated. Thanks to B & B Cycles for all the support.
Here is round three my first expert class start. Maintained a third for half a lap (16 mile laps) then had a mishap that put me over the bars and onto the ground. My level of physical fitness allowed me to recover from a pretty good get-off get back on and finish the race. The bike is really bent up and I've got a couple of broken ribs but I kept my third in class position.
Time to come together and workout!! I'm thinkin P90X Kempo, any takers?
Launching a new program

Well now that we’ve finished Power 90 and P90X we’re going to go for a shot Beachbody INSANITY by Shawn T. Beachbody INSANITY is a high intensity Plyometric Cardio Circuit training program. The duration of the whole experience is compressed into sixty days. My wife and I just completed day two, a 41 minute session that goes by faster than any routine I’ve experienced yet. It steps it up from P90X into a realm of non-stop sweat pouring, short of breath jumping and jacking.
The sixty day duration, of the INSANITY program, just happens to coincide with my next U.S.D.R. race. Round #3 well be a desert race. With my promotion to the Expert class, Senior II, I’ll be going off the line with the big boys. There wouldn’t be much chance to believe that I can win a expert level race based on skill alone, they’re are at the top of their game. I’m hoping that I can step up to their level by showing up with the strongest cardiovascular system I can manage. My strategy is to put in consistent strong lap times through the entire race and hopefully pick off a few positions in the final white flag lap. Maybe, just maybe, there are some experts out there who aren’t considering physical fitness as part of their overall race strategy. Stay tuned we’ll find out.
Here is how Beachbody products can help. I'm posting results from my last race. I was able to increase my lead over second place every lap for over an hour. I credit my wife and Beachbody P90X, Shakeology, Recovery formula and E&E boost for my win.

Great turn out at Apple Valley Fit Club tonight. We when through P90X Core Synergistic. An excellent all around program that works the whole body at a cardio pace. Thanks for the support gang.
I put Beachbody to the test yesterday at the USDR Round #1 off-road race in Gorman CA.
Here's the set-up, I've been focused on re-entering the race scene and using the P90/P90X workouts and the Beachbody supplements to get my 56 year-old body back into competitive shape after a 27 year lay-off.
So Sunday was the big day. The race was 1 hr. plus 1 lap over a very tight 6.4 mile closed circuit off-road course. I had a chocolate Shakeology drink and a banana for breakfast, filled my camel-back with orange recovery drink and lined up with eleven other age appropriate racers at 9AM Sunday morning. Adrenaline is a funny thing it shows up at the weirdest times, everything comes to sharp focus as I stare down the flagman, motorcycles revving and fingers twitching at the clutch handle. One flicker of movement from the flagman and 11 motorcycles blast-off accelerating toward a hairpin turn just 100 feet away. Somehow after two tight turns I found myself leading the race. A voice from the back of my mind is saying (no yelling) what are you doing out here.
There I was leading a race for the first time in 27 years. I settled down and managed to set a good pace and put distance between myself and whoever that was one the Yamaha that kept close enough to hear. I'll spare you the agony of the turn by turn report and suffice to say that after leading the race for two laps we started lapping slower riders. I was blocked by fallen riders in an impassable section and the organizers flagged everyone behind the stalled riders around the canyon and the traffic jam I had become entangled in. There goes my lead, but not my desire.
Breaking out of the jam and back up to speed I felt great. The secret was the recovery beachbody drink in my camel-back taking a couple of slugs from that gave me a great boost. The workouts kept me going strong and as the other riders began to tire I was able to catch and pass many of them as well as a lot of lapped rider traffic. An hour into the race the white, final lap, flag came out and I felt great. I picked off one more racer from my start-line and we had one of the best last lap dices I have ever experienced. This guy slipped by me when we over-took some lapped rider traffic two turns from the finish and got me at the finish line, that's racing! A great race, 1 hour and 15 minutes non-stop over terrain that would had been hard to walk over, it was that rough.
The bottom-line Beachbody products work! I'm convinced the advantage they gave me was real, a Racers Fitness Edge. I almost don't want to share the Beachbody information with my competitors but heck its all just for fun anyway, right?

HUNGRY VALLEY SVRA - GORMAN, CA
Ok here it is. Looking forward to lining up on the starting line for the first time in 28 years. I showed off my number plate to my wife Gaby and her comment was "What's the R stand for re****ed." I didn't have a come back.
Now with a variety of individuals (and couples) showing up for our workouts we are using a wider selection of the Beachbody fitness products to satisfy the curiosity of the group in finding tools to fit their individual efforts and goals. The interesting result of participating in the various workout programs is the cross training exposes your body to the use of completely different muscle group combinations. The experience seems uncoordinated at first, trying to match the moves of the instruction/coaches in the DVD videos, They seem so fluid and effortless at it. Having the proper mindset is necessary to over-come the desire to just say I can't do that. When the thought crosses your mind (happens about every 30 second for me) focus on one thing "Do your best and forget the rest." , works every-time.
Wednesday January 18th Fit Club workout was great as we had an opportunity to try out INSANITY CARDIO RECOVERY. Shawn T works you through this very slowly and deliberately. The focus was primarily on core and legs through a series of squat and lunge exercises, we weren't moving fast but we were exerting ourselves and like I said before since we (I) was unfamiliar with theses exercises the muscle group combinations really put the hurt on heretofore unused group combinations. The whole workout lasted about 36 minutes and really pushed us to exceed our personal limits, if only for a few seconds. I really enjoy these opportunities to find where my strengths and weaknesses are, now I must remember to focus on the stuff that's harder for me than just settling into what comes easy in my workouts.
Speaking of what is hard for me. We finished up our session with 6 minutes of HIP HOP ABs, again with Shawn T's tutorship he danced us through a series of moves that concentrated on abs and lats. If you've got the moves and your like to dance this was a really fun exercise set. Imagine doing a whole series of core exercises without ever hitting the deck and crunching, This was it and I'm feeling it today, even after doing 200 crunch type exercises in P90 3-4 in my usual workout every other day, this gave my abs a workout and I'm feeling it today. I'm going to follow this one and see where it takes me, who knows maybe I get some of those moves down and be ready for the Hip Hop club, yea right. Bottom line it was fun, If I looked goofy, OK fine it worked for me and I'll get better.
Heading off to Apple Valley Fit-Club. See you there. Opens at 5:00 PM program begins at 5:15 PM. P90X Cardio tonight, can't wait!
Still making the effort!
We, Gaby and I, stepped up our workout last night. We stepped up to P90 Phase 3-4, Its a really good little step up just enough to put the humph back into the workout. Adds about 10 minutes to the Sculpt over the 1-2 phase. We are trying the 3-4 Sweat tonight. I feeling good.

Great news, we have found a gymnasium to have a Victor Valley Fit Club group session. The gym has a spring floor so those of us with old knees can do some of the plyo with less worry of impact injury.
We will be using the gym from 5 PM to 6 PM beginning on November 30, 2011. Doors open at 5 with the program starting at 5:15 PM. After a workout we’ll have time to sample the supplements and review the programs available through Beachbody. The Plan is to have a get together every Wednesday with some Saturday programs later on as desired. there is no charge to attend and participate.
The gym is located at 13448 Manhasset Road, Apple Valley. East of Navajo Road, between Ottawa and Powhatten Roads. Its the Mystic All Stars Cheer facility, Thanks to Robert Alvey for allowing us to use the facility.
