If able to help fill sandbags, the need is great. We helped stack sandbags at this home and took the video as we waited for the next truck to arrive. We saw the water level continue to rise today with heavy rain in the forecast late this evening.

It is good to experience how in times of need, neighbors show up for everyone. We helped pick up three loads of sandbags for the next home we were sent to help. As we would show up, neighbors from all directions were ready to unload and stack sandbags. As we would head for the next load, another truck would be pulling in and everyone helped.

Volunteers needed for sandbagging in Waterville as city asks residents to limit water use 06/20/2024

Deon, an elder from church, is in Waterville today helping. I asked her if they still need volunteers. She responded back after arriving, "If you can make it down, there are many elderly people who need help laying sandbags. Any help will be appreciated."

I am going to head down and help today for a few hours and see if there is a team interested in going down tomorrow. Respond here if you can help and I will be checking in and can share specifics on location.

All volunteers must be 18 years old, wear closed-toe shoes, and sign in when the arrive.

Prayers with all that are being affected with flooding.

Thank You, Pastor Rob

Buddy Jesus wants you!

Leadership has been seeking ways to organize and communicate for us to share in the work of being the church together. Weekly, we will be sharing opportunities through sign up genius for Sunday Fellowship, Ushering and Greeting, Kids Camp Volunteer, Meet in the Middle Volunteer, Rides/Meals Ministry, Serving Home Communion, and Sunday School Volunteers.

Buddy Jesus wants to highlight Sunday Fellowship as an area we need help. We would love to build a team of twelve to organize, communicate, and help within each persons ability to provide coffee and treats on Sunday. For too many years, this responsibility has been the lead of one person and this is asking too much. As its own fellowship team, the team can organize this in a way that sets expectations, streamlines how to make coffee and organize a regular order of treats, and how to minimize the set-up to help also minimize what is needed for clean-up. The congregation will still be asked to help both with providing treats and the set-up and clean-up. With a team working together to help communicate, fill in the gaps, and share what is expected, we can all do this together. Our fellowship time following worship is essential for connecting with one another.

Today, we recognize and celebrate Juneteenth, the third year this has been recognized as a national holiday. Did you know Juneteenth is the oldest known African-American celebration? It was on June 19, 1865, slaves in Galveston, Texas, received word of their emancipation, two months after the Civil War had ended, and a full two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation had gone into effect on January 1, 1863.

We celebrate Juneteenth as a celebration for all of God’s people. In this era of division and racial strife, this is history that needs to be remembered and celebrated. So today, in worship, we give thanks while also recognizing the ongoing struggle for emancipation that continues to this day.

I could share many examples of LGBTQ+ friends this week who have received abusive and mean messages on social media...wait for it...from Christians. Why do we make this so hard? Love one another as Christ loves us. It comes down to this. How we speak, and welcome, and love directly affects those around us, especially our children who hear words that either build up with love or tear down. May we continue to seek ways to help build one another up and share healing to those who have been wounded. Happy Pride! You are loved.

Reminder for all ordained elders and deacons. This is all who have served since our charter in 1996. We are having a summit to share excitement in the many great things happening at Spirit of Life. We celebrate that we are growing. In 2023, we changed from nine active elders serving on session to six and from six active deacons to five. With our summit as we share vision, we are seeking help with collaboration and support.

Join us on Sunday following worship. A meal is being provided. Online, please join us streaming on our page. Thank You, Pastor Rob

PS: Others not ordained as elders and deacons have asked if they may attend. Yes, please. We welcome and would love to have you.
