Victor Valley Animal Protective League
Saving Animals Since 1958 They formed an organization called Victor Valley Animal Protective League (VVAPL), which was incorporated as a nonprofit in 1958.
In 1956, due to the Victor Valley’s growing population of abused, neglected, abandoned and stray animals, a small group of people saw the need for an animal shelter and animal welfare program. (Per a VVAPL document dated around 1962 or 1963, the organization started as an expressed desire of John Charles Thomas at his death. Thomas was a popular American Opera, Operetta and Concert Baritone. His w
Without Measure P revenue, there will be budget cutbacks to keep the police we now have. What will that mean to Animal Control and Road maintenance? Do you know you’re already paying an extra 1% when you shop in Victorville? That’s how they can add cops and build a new animal shelter.
In addition to the "official" start of Fall this week, did you know September is also Responsible Dog Owner Month? Let's do our part and encourage other to spay/neuter and leash their dogs when walking.
ATTENTION ANIMAL ACTIVISTS:
We have been bombarded with "unkind" messages, many from non-HD residents, challenging why our empty shelter is not being used for animals from recent SB County fires.
If these folks would like to contribute about $30 per day per animal each day until the animal leaves plus any associated Vet fees (if we could find one) for injured animals, and recruit enough volunteers (who must sign liability waivers in case of injury or accident) to feed, clean and monitor the kennels twice a day, we are confident a path forward could be found for temporary housing endorsed by all local municipal and county animal shelters
Of course, these activists would each take personal responsibility and possession of any animal too sick, injured or aggressive as they demand a strict prohibition of animal euthanasia.
Space for displaced or mistreated animals is not an issue of just empty kennel space.
We hope to resume limited services (not sheltering or adoptions) in the near future and encourage outspoken animal advocates to turn their attention and animus on hoarders, illegitimate rescues and back yard breeders to help curb unwanted and mistreated domesticated animals. The lack of personal responsibility is our biggest enemy in this issue.
We thank our traditional supporters and promise to resume our mission at our earliest sustainable opportunity.

You will start hearing soon about Measure P on the ballot. This penny added to our AV sales tax (1%)will make us equal to VV and Hesperia. Importantly it will stop our current deficit spending and give us the ability to add police and other vital public safety services.
WE would love to have more proactive Code Enforcement and Animal Control staff to help fine dog hoarders, puppy mills and street-corner pet sellers. Like unlicensed back-yard breeders these people just produce more animals who end up sick, unsocialized, abandoned and sadly, eventually euthanized. All local shelters are overwhelmed constantly .
You can help Apple Valley by giving our Town the resources to increase our enforcement of existing laws to make animals and residents safer.

We had a major burglary at our shelter last night. Computers, a portable generator, animal cages and our trailer were stolen. A hundred feet of chain link was taken down so locks could be cut and things loaded up. If you see or hear of any of this on the market for sale contact us and the AV Sheriff station. Trailer specially modified for us and has logos. We have video and other evidence.
There is a special place in hell reserved for folks who steal from a charity!

The VVAPL Board of Directors has not given up on our basic mission to have a positive impact on animal welfare in the high desert. There have been so many changes , cost increases and challenges to the traditional “shelter” model that we are cautiously proceeding to embark on a meaningful and financial sustainable effort to fulfill our mission. We WILL be back in a way that helps save the lives of our precious furry friends!
