Let’s talk Pigmentation:

Pigmentation (aka hyperpigmentation) is similar to a "scar" in that it is an area of skin where melanin is excessively produced and deposited deep within the skin layers.

When treating pigmentation- the goal is to lighten these areas over time by promoting skin cell turnover and inhibiting excess melanin production. This process can help "pull up" the visibility of these pigmented areas.

However, because these changes occur deep within the skin and involve the lifecycle of skin cells, they require consistent treatment and cannot be resolved with a single facial. Sorry...

UV radiation from the sun isn’t just dangerous, it’s also sneaky. Not only can it cause premature aging and skin cancer, it reaches you even when you’re trying to avoid it – penetrating clouds and glass, and bouncing off of snow, water and sand. What’s more, sun damage accumulates over the years, from prolonged outdoor exposure to simple activities like walking the dog, going from your car to the store and bringing in the mail. You can’t escape it!

There is lots of things you can do to protect yourself, but if you feel something seems off or not normal, please get it checked out.

‼️Starting a new skincare routine can sometimes lead to unexpected changes on your face, but don't panic and keep going!!!! Here's why your skin might be acting up 👇🏽

⭐️ Your face might appear more flushed or reactive than usual. Stronger ingredients in clinical-grade products can cause this reaction as your skin adjusts to their potency.

⭐️ Hyperpigmentation could temporarily darken. This happens when using exfoliating agents like retinol or AHAs/ BHAs, as they bring pigmentation to the surface before it's sloughed off.

⭐️ Purging might occur, which is when built-up breakouts come to the surface faster. It's a necessary step to achieve clearer, acne-free skin, especially when starting exfoliating agents.

⭐️ Your skin might feel flaky and dry. This is common when using potent ingredients, but it's temporary. Give it a few weeks and introduce exfoliating products gradually to help your skin adjust.

‼️ I tell EVERYONE who asks me about skin care to double cleanse and only use your hands!!! ‼️

👏🏼 Wash those hands before you cleanse your skin. Get your face a little wet and trap your cleanser and wash your face for a good 1-3 minutes. Cup your hands to fill with water to rinse that off and then grab your cleanser AGAIN and wash one more time!!! And don’t use super hot water. Use colder or even very like warm. 👏🏼

Why??

💦 Because that first wash is getting all that gunk off..the environmental factors, bacteria, dust etc. Then once that is off and you wash again, you’re actually cleaning those pores…cleaning that skin! It’s really a no brainer! 💦
