⚠️ Turn Around, Don't Drown. ⚠️
Follow these tips to make sure you're drinking responsibly this summer:
1. Watch your portions: A drink is 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of liquor
2. Know your limits: In the U.S., the standard recommendation is that a man shouldn’t drink more than four drinks in one day, and a woman shouldn’t have more than three
3. Appoint a designated driver or boater: Accidents can be deadly, and navigating busy road- and waterways while intoxicated is a recipe for disaster
4. Save the drinks for after swimming or boating: Alcohol can affect the way you move, which raises your risk of injury.
5. Hydrate between drinks and be mindful of the heat: Have a glass of water after every alcoholic beverage to make sure you stay hydrated

We keep bringing it up so..... What is blue-green algae? 🤔
▶ Blue-green algae is a term used to describe a group of bacteria, called cyanobacteria. They are not actually algae, but the organisms got this name because they often give the appearance of algae when they clump together in bodies of water.
▶ Blue-green algae is most common in non-flowing, fresh water such as lakes, ponds and rivers. Certain conditions such as hot summer weather can cause it to thrive and grow rapidly, forming a 'bloom' of blue-green algae on the water. It can also be seen during other times of the year.
▶ Blue-green algae is not always blue 𝘰𝘳 green, and it can be difficult to distinguish a harmful bloom from other algae, even for the experts! However, if water looks murky or like pea soup, or if smells like fresh-cut grass (new bloom) or rotting garbage (older bloom), assume toxicity may be present.

This is a great safety guide for children swimming in lakes and swimming pools. The color of the bathing suit can make it easier or more difficult to see children while they are swimming. This is a good reminder to always have adult supervision when children are swimming.
It'll be hot today and tomorrow. 🥵🥵 Please see the following for the City of Appleton's Cooling Centers.
