New research on retinal development!
Check out this peer reviewed publication in Experimental Eye Research : https://lnkd.in/gJf8n63C
Dr. Aaron Nagiel and a team of researchers studied a cellular pathway called the "non-canonical Wnt pathway" and its role in the development of the retina (the light-sensing tissue at the back of the eye) in mice and humans. By analyzing gene expression data, they identified key genes in this pathway that are involved in retinal maturation, with some interesting differences between species. This work lays the groundwork for further exploring how this pathway influences retinal development and neural connectivity. The research was supported in part by Research to Prevent Blindness (RPB).

EyeNet Magazine quoted Sandy Zhang-Nunes, MD, in an article she co-authored about thyroid eye disease related glaucoma. (Link may require a subscription).
“Restrictive myopathy can also play a role in TED-related glaucoma, by creating fluctuations in eye pressure that damage the optic nerve, said Dr. Sandy Zhang-Nunes. “When the eye muscles are so tight and the eye moves in a certain direction, it produces a temporary rise in intraocular pressure. When patients try to look up and you measure their intraocular pressure, it’s going to be elevated.”
