Great article on firefighters & firehouses in Pennsylvania.
Did You Know?
"Firefighters are pretty rare.
Just ☝🏼 in every 430 Pennsylvanians is a member of a firehouse.
That’s a huge drop from ☝🏼 in every 40 in the 1970s. "
Career firefighters...
Volunteer firefighters...
There simply aren't as many these days.
It's no different in Lower Merion.
We're always recruiting volunteers...

Congratulations to Superintendent Block! We look forward to working with you in your new role.
In 2020, older adults (65+) in the United States
had a 2.5 times greater risk of
dying in a fire than the total population.
Whether your elderly loved ones
live alone, at home, in a senior care
facility or with a loved one.....make sure they are prepared
for an emergency!
May is .
Help us keep them safe!
FACT!
The risk of dying in a home fire is CUT IN HALF
in homes with working fire alarms & smoke detectors.
Just last week, fire alarms & smoke detectors saved lives & property right here in .
Success Story #1:
Fire activated a home's fire alarm which notified the homeowner & dispatched the fire department. Firefighters found a small fire in the attic and their early detection & rapid response resulted in minimal property damage
Success Story #2:
Just 3 hours and 45 minutes later, a fire in an apartment activated the smoke detector in the unit.
While the resident was not home at the time, the smoke detector alerted a neighbor who evacuated & called 911.
Working smoke alarms are an important part of a home fire escape plan.
❗️Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room & outside each separate sleeping area.
❗️Install alarms on every level of the home, including the basement
❗️It is best to use interconnected smoke alarms so that when one smoke alarm sounds, they all sound.
❗️Test all smoke alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working.
