We did a little backyard cookin’ last weekend! Basically it’s not meant to be pretty but taste good and consequently promote cold beer drinkin’!

The “Shingle Daddies” had a blast at the Valero BBQ Showdown. They had a scoring mix up for us, so we don’t have official results for our final scores until Monday. We cooked well over 300 pounds of food this weekend.
I also got to see some of my old buddies and made new ones along the way!

Happy 4th of July to you all! I am so appreciative of the freedom that we have. The freedom that is so free that it allows us to do things we love such as competitively cook.
We got to attend the Rib Cookoff Association event last weekend in Ryan, Oklahoma were we had some solid turn in’s. I had some awesome help last weekend with my wife, kids, and dad all chipping in to help.
We got our first Rib Cookoff call in chicken with a 9th place finish. We had an 11th place bacon which I’m proud of considering I dropped my bacon bowls and had to do a remake with my secondary bowls at the last second. Ribs are still a work in progress but am proud to say that we placed well in the middle of the pack.

Sunday was filled with smoke again getting to cook for a long time friend and his staff.

Again, we are so thankful for the freedom that we have.

We also greatly appreciate our meat sources for always getting and helping us with top quality meats.

The kids had so much fun cooking wings. Payton received her first check with a 7th place call.

We had 17 kiddos in the KidsQ Wing Cookoff! We know that having a kids event adds to the chaos of the day, but we always want to try and make our events as kid friendly as possible. They have so much fun and are learning wonderful skills.

We learned a lot this weekend and took the advice of some great bbq cooks! I tried out some new ideas and techniques. The help was greatly appreciated and guidance shined through today.

We had a great time in Jones, Ok yesterday at the Longhorn Showdown. We turned in some pretty nice meats but didn’t get the calls we were hoping for. It will happen, we just have to keep smokin’ away. Payt did get a 7th place chicken wings call that was awesome. All she has been saying is “I got my first check”!

It’s official….. we are moving our fun backyard bbq love (addiction) to the competition level. I have had the privilege to meet some really awesome people that have had faith in me and helped me to make this crazy dream come true.
Win or lose… we are having a blast.
