In-service trainings have commenced! The season has officially kicked off, and it’s time for our lifeguards to start refreshing their skills and meeting their teammates from other pools. In-service trainings provide the opportunity to practice what they learned in their American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification Course in a fun and social way, creating fun memories and a strong skill set for emergency responses!

High Sierra Pools had the pleasure of hosting Bill O'Melia, founder of the Drennen's Dreams Foundation, to honor Drennen's legacy by speaking with our management staff about the importance of high safety standards for lifeguards, pool management, and aquatics facilities. American Red Cross representatives were also present for this event. Thank you to Bill for visiting our Virginia and Maryland offices, it was a presentation we will never forget!

The District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (FEMS) has established an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Incentive Program to encourage the purchase and installation of AEDs in publicly accessible locations within small businesses, places of public worship, small multi-unit apartments, condominiums, or cooperative buildings, and nonprofit organizations. Qualified organizations may receive up to a $400 rebate per AED (or up to $750 per building address with multiple AEDs), if such equipment is registered with DCFEMS and made available for public use.

The Until Help Arrives online course provides the general public with the basic cognitive information on key actions that can be taken during a life-threatening emergency that can help sustain or save a life until EMS arrives including: Compression Only CPR (no breaths) AED Education Choking Education Bleeding (administering direct pressure and tourniquet) and Opioid Overdose (administering naloxone). The Until Help Arrives online course developed by the American Red Cross and American College of Emergency Physicians equips students with the basic knowledge to assist trained responders during a life-threatening emergency. This course is taught online only (accessed via mobile desktop or tablet) and does not meet OSHA requirements for workplace certification. If seeking a 2-year Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED digital certificate that is OSHA compliant and meets other workplace and regulatory requirements, we recommend enrolling in either an Instructor-led Training or Blended Learning course.
