No, what this is actually saying is that there’s a better way to brainstorm.

These accidentally misleading sentences are usually much longer — in legal writing, we call them “forks.” They come to points where there are two or more possible meanings for the reader to follow along with, although usually at some later point there are words or punctuation that make the intended meaning clear. The writers are usually unaware of these, because THEY know what they mean. The reader spends considerable time uncertain about the meaning, or assuming the wrong one, before HOPEFULLY noticing the correct one. That’s time that the reader is not spending being persuaded. To eliminate forks, you have to put aside what you already know about your intended meaning, and assume the point of view of someone unfamiliar with your position and with the subject, and possibly inclined towards the worst possible interpretation of your writing.
