Information about College Campus Ministry from the Office of Youth, Campus, and Young Adult Ministries for the Catholic Diocese of Arlington.
This is an extraordinary journey through the 50 year history of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington! We highly recommend that you set aside half an hour this weekend to watch the Golden Jubilee documentary. It is especially enlightening and inspiring to see how the different ministries and milestones (such as the beginning of WorkCamp!) are related and shaped the diocese into what it is today.
Golden Jubilee Documentary - Catholic Diocese of Arlington NOW AVAILABLE: Witness the last 50 years of faith in northern VA.
It was wonderful to have Diocese of Arlington college students well represented at yesterday’s Chrism Mass! Our office hosted representatives from Christendom College, GMU Catholic Campus Ministry (CCM), UMW Catholic Campus Ministry, and Shenandoah University CCM for a luncheon after the Mass; it was great to meet so many faith-filled students and hear about what is happening in their campus ministries!
The Bishop's Lenten Appeal (BLA) helps to ensure there is a thriving campus ministry at college campuses around the Diocese of Arlington. Hear from a student involved in GMU Catholic Campus Ministry (CCM) about the power of a Christ-centered community at her college campus ministry.
Visit arlingtondiocese.org/BLA to learn more about how you can support this important annual appeal that benefits the campus ministries in our diocese.
The recipient of the Ex Corde Award for 2023 is Valeria DeCelle. The Ex Corde award is given each year to someone who has demonstrated exemplary service or support to ministry on a college campus in the Diocese of Arlington. After being a member and leader in the GMU Catholic Campus Ministry community, Valeria became a Student Campus Minister her senior year at George Mason University, serving as a liaison between students and professional staff. Following her graduation in 2016, she followed the Lord’s call in her life to serve college students as a FOCUS missionary at Temple University in Philadelphia, many of whom also went on to work in ministry. In the five years Valeria has served as a Campus Minister at GMU, she has had a tremendous impact on the community, starting women’s and Hispanic ministry, planning retreats, mentoring the student leadership team, and so much more, all while building relationships with students. She even balanced ministry with studying to become a licensed counselor at Divine Mercy University! From student, to Student Campus Minister, to FOCUS missionary, to full-time Campus Minister, Valeria has selflessly dedicated her life thus far to serving and leading college students closer to Christ. Congratulations, Valeria!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Diocese of Arlington Office of Youth, Campus, and Young Adult Ministries!
"I respectfully ask all in the Diocese of Arlington to unite in prayer as we mourn the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. May we give thanks to God for his example and witness and pray for his eternal peace and happiness.
Born Joseph Ratzinger, he served the Church faithfully and generously for more than 70 years as a priest, bishop, cardinal and pope. He was an influential figure at the Second Vatican Council and served as one of Pope Saint John Paul II's closest collaborators before being elected pope himself in 2005. A devoted student of the Word of God and steeped in the Church's liturgical and theological tradition, he was able to engage the modern world with intellectual clarity and pastoral charity. The breadth and depth of his teachings have inspired many and are already considered part of the Church's patrimony. May the Lord grant to this good shepherd eternal rest and abundant reward for his labors."
— Bishop Michael F. Burbidge

This past week, 17 members of Shenandoah University CCM participated in a retreat at San Damiano Spiritual Life Center in White Post, Virginia. The theme of the retreat was “Finding Rest in God.” This time together included talks by the club’s officers, Eucharistic adoration, Mass, the opportunity for confession, and plenty of time to pray, reflect, explore the grounds, and enjoy fellowship with one another.
This was the first retreat for this new and growing campus ministry. Hear from a few of the participants:
“I was really able to block out all distractions and stress of the semester and just be with God and my friends for the day and I really needed that. I wasn’t on my phone the entire day which was so refreshing! It also was an opportunity for me to readjust my focus on God, and was the first good confession I had in a really long time. As for CCM, the retreat really brought us together as members; we were really able to connect as friends and brothers and sisters in Christ!” Bridget McNeely
"The retreat was an amazing opportunity for growth and fellowship, which is much needed during this particular time in our lives." - Adaugo Ejekwu
Each participant received a retreat T-shirt, designed by club vice president Victoria Nolan. The design included a compass and the two phrases that inspired the leadership in their initial planning of the retreat: “I believe in your love for me, point out the road I am to follow.”
